Angelina Jolie is celebrating a proud, yet tough, parental milestone with her daughter Zahara Jolie-Pitt as she sends her off for her first year at college. Cue the tears!
The actress recently dropped her 17-year-old daughter off at Spelman College, a historically Black college for women, in Atlanta, Georgia. The day was documented with photos on Instagram, on both Jolie's page, as well as on Vice President for Student Affairs Darryl Hollomon's page.
The Tears Haven't Begun Yet, But Soon!
While Jolie, 47, chatted with school president Dr. Helene Gayle, she was asked how she feels about being a Spelman mom. Jolie replied, "I'm gonna start crying! I have not started crying yet." The emotional moment was caught on video by Holloman and posted on his page in a carousel of pics and videos marking the occasion. Gayle jokes that there's "plenty of time to cry" because the ceremonies are "purposely to induce" crying to bring all the emotions out. With that news, Jolie replied, "I heard tomorrow night's the big night. I'm holding it together."
So Much Support During This Special Time
Parents who have dropped their children off at college for the first time can relate to her emotions and can probably feel the vibe through the video. Comments on the social media post included tons of supportive messages for both mom and daughter.
"Best role in life, being a mother. Congratulations to the university."
"She grew up before our eyes! So happy for her my daughter is across the way at Clark Atlanta. Welcome to the AUC Zahara."
"Congratulations Zahara, you are a part of a Sisterhood that few are a part of and proud of, Much Success to You Little Sister."
"Beautiful Angelina and her lovely daughter. She’s just a mom trying to hold it together before leaving her girl at school. Best of luck to the incoming freshmen."
"Well done. Angelina has done such a great job raising her children to be connected to their roots."
Wishing Everyone a Great Year at College
Earlier this month, Jolie made the announcement that her daughter would be attending Spelman in the fall. "Zahara with her Spelman sisters! Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl," her post read. With more than 500,000 likes and 6,000 messages of congratulations, the support is evident for Jolie-Pitt and all the new college students. Jolie-Pitt's first day of classes will be August 17. There's no word yet on what she is majoring in, but the school is best known to be a liberal arts college.
Jolie and ex-husband Brad Pitt, 58, are also parents to twins Vivienne and Knox, 14, Shiloh, 16, Pax, 18, and Maddox, 20. Jolie-Pitt isn't the first of the family to go off to college. Her big brother Maddox has been studying at South Korea's Yonsei University since 2019. But that doesn't mean sending each child off to college gets easier for the proud parents.
Jolie-Pitt's father is also a proud parent. Earlier this month, Pitt talked to People about his daughter's big college news. "Yeah that's beautiful. Really beautiful."
