Actor Oscar Isaac made a splash with audiences as Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which consisted of “The Force Awakens” in 2015, “The Last Jedi” in 2017, and “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.
Although he seemed hesitant to join in any major blockbusters again, he went from HBO’s “Scenes From A Marriage” to Disney’s other major franchise, Marvel, starring as the titular hero in “Moon Knight” for their Disney+ streaming service. However, a second season of the live-action series has yet to be confirmed, leaving the door open for Isaac to return to a galaxy far, far away… if he so chooses.
Although Isaac had previously indicated that he might return to the franchise if Daisy Ridley returned as Rey and John Boyega returned as Finn to round out the Resistance trio, Isaac elaborated a bit more on the conditions of his possible return in an interview on Sirius XM.
Oscar Isaac Reveals What It Will Take To Get Him To Return To ‘Star Wars’
In the interview, transcribed by The Direct, the “Ex Machina” actor told Jess Cagle that he hadn’t yet made a firm decision on whether or not he wanted to definitely return to the franchise. At this point, the animated LEGO Summer Vacation special, and other LEGO specials, have given fans the only glimpse into the life of the characters past the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
With more and more Disney+ series focusing on the timeline before the events of the sequel trilogy, it’s possible that Disney might not give fans another episode in the Skywalker Saga for many years yet. During the interview, Cage asked Isaac directly if he’s interested in reprising his character of Poe Dameron at some point in the future.
Cagle asked, “And with everything happening with Star Wars, for example… I’m sure there are discussions, whether you’re part of them or not… Do you sometimes think, ’Oh, I’ll probably get to go back to Poe Dameron at some point, or do you think… ‘I’ve done that. I’m not that interested in doing it.’ You know, the option is probably always there.”
“Hmm. I don’t know. No, I don’t know. I mean, I’m open to anything, you never know,” Isaac replied. “But yeah, there’s no… I have no real feeling one way or the other, you know? I’m open to any kind of good story, any good thing to do. And time. Time’s the one thing that becomes much more challenging as you get older, with kids and all that.”
“It’s like, where do these things fit in? Start really realizing that there’s not enough time for all of it,” he continued. “But if there was a great story and a great director and Kathy [Kennedy] came to me and was like, ’Hey, we’ve got this idea, you know, I’m so, so open to it.”
Isaac Jokes That Even Kids In Denmark Recognize Him For His Role In ‘Star Wars’
Although he just appeared in the Disney+ series “Moon Knight,” Isaac is still best recognized for his role as Poe Dameron in a galaxy far, far away. Right now, Isaac is filming in Denmark, and Cagle was curious to know if he was recognized by the locals due to his success in many independent projects and major blockbusters.
“Oscar, when you are around the world, like you’re in Denmark right now… what do people ask you the most about?” Cagle asked. “Because you’ve been part of these enormous global franchises. Is it Star Wars or is it…”
“So I’m up in here in… this little village up here and they had this very small music festival down here. And it was shockingly very young kids that were there,” Isaac explained. “I was like, ‘Whoa.’ But no, it was like teenagers and stuff and it was like a couple times people would just be like, ‘Star Wars. Star Wars!’ They would just yell Star Wars at me.”
“It felt great. it felt really great,” he continued. “So yeah, that happened up here. I think Star Wars generally. Moon Knight, a bit more. You know, those are like the big ones. Those are the bigger tent projects, so those are the ones.”
The Star Wars sequel trilogy and “Moon Knight” are currently available to stream on Disney+.
