The 2020 Grammys are in the books and a number of big-time musical artists walked away with some impressive hardware, including Billie Eilish, who took home five total awards and four of the biggest. They included Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. And while many thought that Eilish deserved those awards, others were pretty upset, to say the least. They felt that there were a handful of major snubs at the ceremony and took to social media to express their disapproval.
As the ceremony concluded, fans of Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey were left in utter shock. They were firmly convinced that Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’ album, which has broken countless records, and ‘Norman F—–g Rockwell’ album which garnered national attention, would win at least one of the top awards. Nope. A clean sweep on the part of Eilish. The snubs led many of their fans to lash out against the Recording Academy on social media, claiming conspiracy and other wild theories.

One fan was particularly hellbent on claiming that the Grammys as a whole was a scam and a truly dishonest award ceremony, even going so far as to rename the event, the ‘Scammys’. “THEY WERE SCAMMED!! THE GRAMMYS WEREN’T READY FOR THEIR TALENT #scammys,” they wrote on Twitter.
Another fan, equally as frustrated, also echoed the alleged scam sentiments penning, “So you’re gonna tell me ariana grande nor lana del rey won an award at ALL. if thats not a scam idk what is but my bbs were ROBBED.”
Other people on social media chose to ‘not be surprised’ as this has happened before, with one alluding to the year that Adele cleaned house, leading some to believe Beyonce was personally snubbed.
Even more drastically, some social media users have decided that they won’t be watching the event moving forward. “The fact Ariana didn’t win a single Grammy, f*cking wack never watching that waste on time again #Scammys# GRAMMYs @ArianaGrande you’re my winner,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another shared similar intentions by stating, “Yall made Ariana promote the sh*t out of that award show only to make her leave with NOTHING. Same with Lana who didn’t even got [sic] to perform one song of hers.”

Of course, award shows will never please everybody. The Golden Globes recently created some similar feelings as people thought many talents artists were even left out of the list of nominations, especially women. The same could be said about the Oscars a year ago, where the event was boycotted due to the lack of diversity among the nominations.
While no one is sure to forget the snubs any time soon, at least in regard to the fans of Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey, one would still have to be happy for Billie Eilish’s wins, which have established her as a truly talented artist and a formidable challenger for future award ceremonies.
