Packer recently opened up about his thoughts on Smith’s recent apology to Chris Rock and his hopes for the actor’s future in Hollywood.
Will Packer Applauds Will Smith’s Apology
In a recent interview with People Magazine, Packer discussed Smith’s public apology, which came to light last month. The renowned producer had nothing but praises for the “Men In Black” star’s repentance.
“I love the fact that he’s being so transparent about his process. He is being very public and honest and open about his remorse,” Packer told the publication.
As for how Smith would navigate his future with such a scandal attached to his name, the 48-year-old producer believes The Fresh Prince would do just fine.
“I think that he’s got three decades in this business of being somebody that is the exact opposite of who he was in those few seconds, and so I’m pulling for him,” Packer enthusiastically added.
The ‘King Richard’ Star Apologizes, Chris Rock Doesn’t Reach Back
In July, Smith came out of his hiding and broke his silence on the headline-making scandal.
As you might know, back in March, Smith smacked Rock on stage while he was presenting an award and in the process joked about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss condition, alopecia.
The outrage at the 94th Academy Awards was a sort of defining moment for Smith who received his first Oscar ever for his role in “King Richard.”
Both parties haven’t particularly discussed the incident until Smith made the first move. In a video shared to his Instagram, the award-winning actor addressed the raging opinions on the slap.
“It’s been a minute… Over the last few months, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and personal work…You asked a lot of fair questions that I wanted to take some time to answer,” a message on the screen read.
The first question that appeared read, “Why didn’t you apologize to Chris in your acceptance speech?”
Smith, with a somber look, answered, saying he was “fogged out.” He explained that he’s tried to contact the comedian but to no avail
”I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk. And when he is, he will reach out,” he disclosed.
Nevertheless, Smith issued his apology, saying, “I apologize to you [Chris] my behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
He also extended his apologies to Rock’s mom, adding that he didn’t realize how many people got hurt in the moment. Smith didn’t fail to include Rock’s brother Tony Rock, with whom he had a great relationship.
The “I Am Legend” star noted that things between him and Tony are “probably irreparable.” Following his apology, Rock at a stand up poked fun at the actor comparing him to Suge Knight.
“Everybody is trying to be a f—ing victim,” Rock said during his set. “If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims. Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith … I went to work the next day, I got kids.”

In addition, a source claims the “Grown Ups” star has “moved on” long before Smith issued an apology and doesn’t need to talk about it.
Willow Smith Stands Strongly Behind Her Father
Amid the controversy, “The Pursuit of Happynness” star has the full support of his family, especially his daughter Willow Smith.
As The Blast reported, the “Whip My Hair” singer in an interview addressed the controversy, saying, “I see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness.”
She continued, “Because of the position that we’re in, our humanness sometimes isn’t accepted, and we’re expected to act in a way that isn’t conducive to a healthy human life and isn’t conducive to being honest.”
