The internet is going crazy over Dolly Parton‘s new viral social media challenge where you take four photos and lable which ones you would use on the social media sites Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and the home of awkward sexiness Tinder. To say that this challenge is hilarious is an understatement, as many celebrities have been uploading their takes on the challenge and giving props to Queen Dolly herself for bringing the challenge into the new decade. But are their depictions accurate?
Let’s start with LinkedIn. A site dedicated primarily for professionals, LinkedIn is the most rigid of all the platforms because it doesn’t necessarily lend for its users to play up their personal lives. In fact, Forbes broke down LinkedIn’s purpose quite nicely.
According to the Pew Research Center, LinkedIn usage is especially high among the educated (bachelor’s degree holders and up), and high earners (those making $75,000 a year or more) — exactly the types of people with whom you’d want to connect professionally. It is also the only social networking site Pew measured that showed higher usage among 50-64-year-olds than among those ages 18-29, which means that those with more professional experience (and who are more likely to be in a position to hire) are on the site.
Facebook, the popular site that has been suffering from a steady decline in the past few years, is a different animal altogether. With its family-friendly vibe Facebook has always been known as the place to connect and reconnect with those far and wide. However is it still relevant in our ever changing social media landscape? Vox reports;

That’s not the future Facebook is building toward — and apparently not the future that users actually want. Instagram is another hugely popular social media tool used by everyone from celebrities, to business owners and everyday people. And with shows like the recently wrapped The Circle when it comes to sites like Instagram you can be whoever you want. But what was the main reason behind Facebook’s acquisition of the popular site? CNBC reports;
Several former Facebook employees with knowledge of the Instagram acquisition tell CNBC that the company did not purchase the mobile app to squash a would-be competitor. Rather, the former employees argue, Facebook at the time was much smaller and fending off what threatened to be fierce competition from Twitter, which had already bid for Instagram, and Google’s new social network. These people asked for anonymity, as they are not authorized to speak to the press about Facebook.
Finally, the most salacious of these sites is Tinder, a dating app that helps people find the love of their life or the ride of their night. To say it goes down on Tinder is an understatement because it still remains one of the most popular apps out there. Perhaps it’s due in part to it being unapologetic for what it is. Mashable reports;
Tinder may not want to advertise as such, but we all know what it’s mostly used for.
