In a year that marked several break-ups within Bachelor Nation, it may be fair to say hardly any fans of "The Bachelorette" were expecting Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum to join the ranks!

The former Mr. and Mrs. Rosenbaum met and fell in love during Hebert's season of "The Bachelorette" 11 years ago, and their televised nuptials marked the beginning of their love story, which eventually brought them two children.

Compared to many of their Bachelor Nation counterparts, the duo lived a low-key lifestyle with their son and daughter, (their son arrived two years after their wedding, with their daughter joining the party two years after that), frequently documenting their seeingly fairytale family life on their Instagram feeds. After the duo announced they would be splitting up in the Fall of 2020, the fairytale image had been shattered. With a seemingly perfect picture of a reality TV success story gone incredibly well, the news of their separation stunned Bachelor Nation.

What Went Wrong Between Hebert And Rosenbaum?

Publicly announcing and detailing their separation had been yet another incredibly difficult experience for the couple. A year before their announcement, Hebert and Rosenbaum had gone public with the devastating news Rosenbaum had been struggling with a rare neurological disorder, a piece of news The Blast had reported in detail.

According to our report from December of 2019, Rosenbaum had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, which wreaks havoc on one's nervous system.

Patients with the disorder can expect to deal with life-long effects, including weakness and fatigue.

Hebert broke the news to fans via an Instagram Story, featuring a photo of Rosenbaum in the hospital. According to Us Weekly, Hebert wrote, "It may be a long road to full recovery, but we are so grateful to everyone that has helped us get to a speedy diagnosis and treatment."

When Hebert announced their separation less than a year after Rosenbaum's diagnosis, she made no mention of the illness being a contributing factor to their decision, instead implying the couple had been working to resolve tension within their marriage for a long time.

"Our differences have taken a toll on our relationship," she wrote in her announcement shared via Instagram, "and after years of attempting to repair the damage, we've decided it's in our family's best interest to create new and separate lives for our children."

Rosenbaum revealed he had been feeling "disbelief" and "extreme sadness" while attempting to compose his own Instagram announcement.

"While I realize that this will come as a complete shock to everyone," he wrote, "I can assure you this has been something that's been developing in our relationship for quite a while..." (via Us Weekly)

Was There More To The Story?

Hebert and Rosenbaum have both heavily documented their post-divorce lifestyle on Instagram, each parent sharing many photos of their respective outings with their kiddos on their feeds.

Rosenbaum's commitment to creating fun memories with their children has not gone unnoticed by his former wife, a fact Hebert publicly shared last year.

"I can always count on @_jprosenbaum to take the kids out on adventures together filled with fun activities," she wrote alongside a snapshot of her kids in action. Although she resolved to keep the keepsake-worthy moment real in her caption; before giving props to her ex, she revealed "Divorce is hard no matter what."

Having a functioning co-parenting dynamic isn't the only aspect propelling positivity in Hebert's life! Earlier this spring, she went public with a new relationship.

The debut of her new man was met with a lukewarm reception from Bachelor Nation on Twitter. The first comment on a thread featuring a photo of the new couple together from the official Bachelor Nation Twitter account reads, "Sorry but her and JP belong together."

Any hope of a reconciliation between the Bachelor Nation favorites seems low on the radar of possibilities, even for one of the most unpredictable franchises in reality TV history! Lately, the former couple have both made some pretty telling statements regarding their relationship.

According to Us Weekly, Hebert responded to a comment Rosenbaum had made previously on social media about the current state of their relationship, seeming surprised by Rosenbaum's choice of words. He had described their relationship as being "civil and stable" last month.

"He did? Lol. Those words sound political to me," she wrote before adding, "I think we're fine."

Rosenbaum did not mince words and got right down to the point in a recent podcast interview.

"We're not friends," he told the "She's All Batch" podcast. However, he also revealed the couple was "amicable" with one another.

The publication also revealed their divorce had been finalized and the former couple had also "reached a confidential settlement in their divorce" last year.
