On Tuesday, August 2, THR revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery was shelving the $90 million film after a change in corporate ownership. CEO David Zazlav is seeking to save $3 billion dollars from the budget, and it looks like "Batgirl" has become just another casualty. THR reported that sources informed them that Zazlav will be taking a tax write-down on the film instead of releasing it.

In the future, the company plans to focus on theatrical releases instead of films available to stream at home on HBO Max. The controversial decision has not been well-received by fans.
