Dove Cameron's Instagram followers got mega trolled on Tuesday morning. The Descendants actress got up early to prank social media, and it looks like she did it successfully.

Dove posted three photos to her Instagram. The first showed the 23-year-old appearing to recline back on a bed fitted with British Union Jack flag linens. Dove's face was visible, seemingly co-ordinating with a body clothed in nautical-striped pajamas – the snap showed a long-sleeved PJs top paired with tiny shorts.

You can see the first photo below. Depending on how awake you are, you'll likely notice something is up with the alabaster-colored and rather plastic-looking legs. Likewise, with the placement of Dove's head.

A quick swipe to the right took things to the next level. Here, the actress and singer was once again showing her face, but her head was even less connected to the body. The view of the mannequin wearing pajamas – it clearly wasn't Dove, here– was more marked.

Dove may come lithe-limbed, but there was no two ways about this one.

A caption from the actress kept fans on their toes. It didn't mention the trolling.

"Stay ready. So u don't have 2 get ready," she wrote.

The final photo showed Dove posing by the dummy. Given that the actress was laughing as she stood in black clothing next to it, things seemed clear – Dove's trolling game was on-point, and she was feeling pretty proud of her setup.

Early responses seemed to see a fanbase that was both half asleep and successfully trolled.

"Lmao. This had me SHOOK" was one reply.

"Bruh, u got me...," another fan wrote.

"I thought it was you," one user said.

For one user, caps were necessary as they wrote: "I CAN NOT BELIEVE I DID NOT NOTICE IT WAS A MANNEQUIN FOR ABOUT TEN SECOND! This was trippy."

2019 wasn't the easiest year for Dove –or, indeed, fans of the much-loved Descendants franchise. On July 6, 2019, the show's actor Cameron Boyce passed away from a seizure.

Dove spoke to Hollywood Life about why a Descendants movie without Boyce likely wouldn't work.

“What happened was so incredibly heart wrenching for all of us and something we could not recover from,” she said.

“And so, I think that the idea of making another movie while it would be nostalgic for all of us, and while it would be healing in a lot of ways, it might also be super wrong. So it could go either way and it depends on how we’re all feeling and I think that the beautiful thing that Disney has done is that they have very much created a safe space for the cast to be wherever they’re at. They canceled everything when Cameron passed and I know they want what’s in all of our best interests, so we’ll see. I doubt it, but we’ll see," she added.

Dove took to Instagram following Boyce's death. The actress was in video mode, reading from a letter she'd written.

“I felt really weird about posting about Cameron on social media because I felt really emotional and private and intimate and social media is the opposite of that," she opened.

"Over the last six years, since he was only 14, Cameron talked me down from countless ledges, talked me through eating disorders, helped me out of a dark relationship and through endless breakdowns," she added, with words also dedicated to her former co-star's parents.

Dove likely hasn't forgotten Boyce, but fans would likely agree that Dove's co-star would've dug today's little troll.
