Ashton Kutcher Explains Why 'Punk'd' Would Never Get A Revival

While fans enjoyed Ashton Kutcher’s prank reality series for nine seasons, the 44-year-old actor and host revealed that it wasn’t very fun for him. In a recent interview, he told fans that hosting the MTV show made him lose a lot of friends.

This was because he pranked many celebrities and recorded their reactions on camera. According to him, this celebrity-targeting habit meant that “for a long time, I would go out and like nobody would want to hang out.”

He also revealed how happy he was to revisit his famous Michael Kelso character from the 1998 sitcom “That ’70s Show.” However, he’d take a pass on revisiting “Punk’d” for a simple reason.

“I have friends again,” Kutcher said when asked by the ex-Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay. “For a long time, I would go out and like nobody would want to hang out,” he explained to the 37-year-old, who interviewed him for Extra.

On the Monday red carpet for Kutcher’s new thriller “Vengeance,” he also revealed that celebs didn’t hang out with him to avoid getting pranked. “They were like, ‘I am not messing with him,’” he said. He then insisted that he’d rather have friends than keep hosting his popular prank show. “It’s nice to have friends.”

The show was co-created and hosted by the star in 2003. It lasted until 2012 and earned him many fans through the years. Through all 94 episodes, he tormented several popular artists like Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Daz Shepard, and Bill Hader.

Even though the actor won’t be revisiting his prank show, his role in “Vengeance” proved to fans that he’s more than happy to work with his former co-stars again. This was obvious as the actor, producer, writer, and comedian Novak, stars in, wrote, and executive produced the murder mystery film.

On the “Vengeance” carpet, the star was also asked about his return to the “That ’70s Show” atmosphere. This comes from his recent announcement that he’d be starring in the popular sitcom’s upcoming sequel “That ’90s Show” on Netflix.

Kutcher starred in the hit sitcom for almost a decade, from 1998 to 2006. He was on screen with his now-real-life wife Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, Kurtwood Smith, Lisa Robin Kelly, Wilmer Valderrama, Debra Jo Rupp, Danny Masterson, Don Stark, Topher Grace, Tanya Roberts, and Tommy Chong.

While the release date for the sequel is yet to be announced, the streaming service has told fans what the upcoming sequel will center on. It will revolve around Leia (played by Callie Haverda), the ’70s show lead Donna Pinciotti (who plays Prepon), and Eric Forman (who plays Grace’s daughter.)

The plot follows her as she pays her grandparents, Red Forman (Smith) and Kitty (Rupp), a visit for the summer. Fans can’t wait to see Kutcher, Kunis, and actor Wilmer Valderrama as they are set to make special appearances on the show.

During an interview, Kutcher also revealed that he and Kunis had a talk before agreeing to sign for appearances as their characters Jackie and Kelso.

“Mila and I were contemplating it,” he said to Variety. He also revealed that a huge reason for their decision was that the hit show boosted both their careers. “We thought, ‘Listen, we’re only in the position that we’re in because of that show, so let’s just go back and do this. We just went back and had fun for a week.”

He also told fans that he enjoyed his time on the set. “It was so random and fun.’” Kutcher then revealed that he loved the new casting as it made him feel nostalgic. He said, “The new cast is phenomenal, it was really nostalgic to be back on the set. It’s all the same folks that made That ’70s Show, so it was pretty bizarre.”
