Actor David Warner, best known for his role in "Titanic," passed away at the age of 80.

His family told Entertainment Weekly that the "Tron" actor had passed away on Sunday at London's Denville Hall after an 18-month battle with cancer.

In the statement, his family said:

"Over the past 18 months he approached his diagnosis with a characteristic grace and dignity. He will be missed hugely by us, his family and friends, and remembered as a kind-hearted, generous and compassionate man, partner and father, whose legacy of extraordinary work has touched the lives of so many over the years. We are heartbroken."

The English actor spent about six decades on the stage and in various films and TV shows. He went from performing classical theater in productions of "Hamlet" to series like "Star Trek" and "Doctor Who." He also appeared in several horror movies, like "The Omen" and "Waxwork." However, he is probably best known for playing Billy Zane's henchman Spicer Lovejoy in James Cameron's "Titanic."

His last film appearance was as Admiral Boom in 2018's "Mary Poppins Returns."

The statement continued to say that the beloved actor is survived by "his beloved partner Lisa Bowerman, his much-loved son Luke and daughter-in-law Sarah, his good friend Jane Spencer Prior, his first wife Harriet Evans, and his many gold dust friends."

Many took to social media to honor the memory of David Warner, including his "Mary Poppins Returns" costar, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

"Encanto" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted a sweet snap of the two standing side by side, with David's arm around his shoulder.

"So glad to have been able to express my admiration for David Warner's incredible versatility and career in our time together on set," he tweeted. "Even talked him into doing a Random Roles interview with @NonStopPop, because my goodness, what a life and legacy. ❤️ -LMM."

Director Edgar Wright also paid tribute to his passing, tweeting, "Very sad to hear of David Warner's passing, an actor with a huge legacy on stage & screen and unforgettable roles in; Morgan: A Suitable Case For Treatment, Straw Dogs, From Beyond The Grave, The Omen, Time After Time, Time Bandits, Tron, Titanic and much more. He will be missed."

Wright later added more roles from Warner's impressive filmography, including, "Tom Jones, Cross Of Iron, The Man With Two Brains, The Company Of Wolves, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, In The Mouth Of Madness, Twin Peaks, Inside No.9, Doctor Who..."

And speaking of Doctor Who, the BBC Twitter account paid tribute to the late actor, who appeared in "Cold War" in 2013. Those who worked with him at Big Finish compiled a list of condolences that can be read here.

Star Trek Online also paid tribute to the late actor, tweeting, "Rest in peace David Warner. Known for his powerful performances in some of Trek's most important moments, his titanic presence will be sorely missed."

Actor Alec Baldwin also took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late actor with a screenshot of a headline announcing his passing. The "30 Rock" actor wrote, "I love David Warner in so many movies. THE OMEN, TRON, TITANIC, to name a few. Rest In Peace."
