Watching a child grow up and gain independence can be an emotional experience for a parent. In typical mom fashion, Jenna Dewan got emotional as her daughter left for sleepaway camp for the first time. Everly, 9, seemed more ready for the big adventure than mom did, according to Dewan's Instagram photos.
An Emotional Send-Off to Summer Camp
Sunday was Everly's big day - time to leave for summer camp. That day seemed to have come too quickly for Dewan, 41, who captioned an Instagram story with, "Then one day she grows up and wants to go to sleepaway camp." In a photo of Everly saying goodbye to her 2-year-old brother Callum, Dewan captioned, "She asked for 20 hugs from Callum." Dewan said that she "held it together until the car" and shared a photo of her with tears in her eyes.
"From crying tears of joy watching Evie conquer stage fright, to us successfully sending her off to camp, to the brother sister hugs and Irish dancing and kissing doves my heart is FULL this weekend," Dewan captioned a carousel of photos, also posted on Sunday. Photos included Callum dancing watching his sister's dance class, a photo of kissing doves, and others. The comment section was a sea of red hearts, beautiful messages of support and pure happiness.
Everly Found a New Passion and Dewan Couldn't be More Excited
Her daughter, with ex Channing Tatum, is growing up before our very eyes. Dewan spoke to People back in May about her daughter's new passion. "Everly has been obsessed with Irish legends, folklore, music, for her entire life. Fairies, all of it. I showed her Riverdance and she was just like, 'I want to do this, Mom, find me a place,'" she said. "So I found this woman [at] Celtic Irish Dance Academy in Burbank. We were there last week and she loves it but it's hard. I'm so proud of her for keeping with it. She's picking it up real quick." The "Step Up" actress said she's supporting her daughter's new passion but doesn't want to be overly excited and push her into it. "I'm nervous that she'll fall out of love with it so I'm like, 'Yes, good, we're in a good place now,'" she said. Everly even had the chance to go to Ireland with her father and loved it.
Child Acting Isn't in the Cards for Everly
And while Everly is loving her new dancing passion, both Tatum and Dewan are on the same page with Everly following in her famous parent's acting footsteps. He told People, "Jenna and I, we've always met eye to eye on this one. It's pretty tough to be a child actor or artist. I also believe that if you really want to be a beautiful artist, you have to go live a real life. And I think kids in Hollywood, in general, there's a lot of things that are standing in the way of living a very normal life in the world." Tatum went on to explain, "When she's 18, she's lived a full life and she can make her own decision, then I will put her in anything and everything that I can possibly put her in because she'll be the coolest thing in the world and she is the coolest thing in the world."
Her Busy Working Mom Life
Dewan, also mom to Callum with fiancé Steve Kazee, knows what it's like to be a busy working mom. She's been busy curating her new DSW collection, which features a range of shoes under $150. "It's all about finding a shoe for every person. One that's versatile and comfortable to wear if you're running around town, and one that's a shoe to go out in with your girlfriends or on a first date," she said. "I wanted something for everyone."
