Demi Lovato has come to terms that their life with drugs and alcohol is not the life for them.

Following their near-fatal overdose in 2018, Lovato tried being “California Sober.”

In 2012, Lovato revealed to “CBS Sunday Morning” that they was “California Sober” which means they drink and smoke pot; however, they don’t do hard drugs.

“I think the term that I best identify with is ‘California sober. I really don’t feel comfortable explaining the parameters of my recovery to people, because I don’t want anyone to look at my parameters of safety and think that’s what works for them, because it might not,” the singer told CBS.

Lovato quickly learned this lifestyle was not putting them on the right path to recovery. They retracted their statement in December 2021 about the “California Sober” lifestyle and has been without drugs or alcohol since.

In a new interview with Boston’s Audacy Mix 104.1, the singer opened up about their clean new lifestyle.

Last week, Lovato admitted, “I had people around me that wanted me to be sober. And I don’t think that I wanted it.”

The non-binary singer also said they tried making “bargaining choices” on their road to recovery.

Hence the “California Sober” lifestyle in 2021.

“I tried just smoking weed, I tried doing this...And I just realized that none of it works for me. What's come into my life is acceptance…” they said. “I'm in such acceptance of my life the way that it is that I really rarely think about substances, which is a beautiful thing and something that I never thought would happen to me.”

As previously stated, Lovato denounced their ‘CA Sober’ lifestyle last December.

“I no longer support my ‘California sober’ ways,” Lovato announced on their Instagram Story. “Sober sober is the only way to be.”

And “sober sober” is their way of life now.

Next month, Lovato turns 30 and will release their eighth studio album titled, “Holy Fvck.”

The album will be released on August 19th, one day before their 30th birthday.

“Holy Fvck” will have more of a punk/rock vibe which is similar to their early career in music.

“The process of making this album has been the most fulfilling yet, and I’m grateful to my fans and collaborators for being on this journey with me. Never have I been more sure of myself and my music, and this record speaks that for itself. To my Lovatics who have been rocking out with me since the beginning and those who are just now coming along for the ride, thank you. This record is for you,” Lovato shared in a statement.

This album comes after they released “Dancing With The Devil” in 2021. ‘DWTD’ was their first album since a near-fatal drug overdose.

The last time Lovato toured was in 2017 for their “Tell Me You Love Me World Tour.”

“I’m so excited to get back on the road after four years without touring, and even longer since I’ve toured in South America,” they said. “We’re working so hard to deliver an incredible show for all my fans and I can’t wait to see them in person to celebrate this new music.”
