Mandy Moore Talks Fears That Stopped Her From Touring While Pregnant

Actress and singer Mandy Moore is used to long hours and little sleep. But being pregnant while raising a toddler changed quite a bit for the "This Is Us" actress. In June she announced that she would be ending her "In Real Life" tour early while she prepares to become a mommy of two.

Moore, 39, originally thought that she could "power through" the tour while pregnant and taking care of her son August "Gus" Harrison, 17 months old, the same way she did while filming the final season of "This Is Us." She told Today Parents, "As it turns out, being on a set is worlds away from being on a tour bus. It was like trying to sleep on a wooden rollercoaster. Gus would be standing up in his Pack N' Play while the bus was shaking - and I was like, 'No, no, no. We can't do this anymore,'" she explained. "I foolishly thought 'if I did it before, I can do it again.' But every pregnancy is different. This time, I was caring for a toddler. I was walking around feeling like an absolute shell of myself."

Moore, who's second child, a boy, is due in October, was concerned that her usual lack of sleep while on tour and the schedule she had to keep could harm her unborn child's health. And while she was excited to be back on tour after 15 years, she knew that she had to take a giant step back at the moment. Moore announced on June 30 that she was heartbroken that she has to cancel the remaining show dates to focus on her health. "I'd been looking forward to this for a decade and a half," she said. "But ultimately, nothing trumps your health, and the health of your baby." Moore announced the news on Instagram explaining that being on tour was "too challenging" while she is pregnant.

The singer said she feels as if she is letting people down, including herself. She hasn't toured in 15 years and was looking forward to it. Her OB/GYN felt relieved that she was taking this step back during pregnancy. "She was like, 'I know you're a tough cookie like me, but you're just gonna rest now, OK?" she explained. She has decided that she will get back on the tour bus with her husband Taylor Goldsmith, the lead singer of indie rock band Dawes, and their two boys, when the time is right. "He tells me, 'The most important thing is to listen to your body. We will do this again. This isn't the last time that you'll be able to go on the road.' We will always make music a priority, and it will always be a part of our lives."
