Country Music Singer Reba McEntire Shares Progress On Bringing Back 'Reba' Sitcom

Reba McEntire is calling for a "Reba" reboot.

The country music legend starred as a fictionalized version of herself in the Warner Bros tv series a few months after she played the role of Annie Oakley in the Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun" in 2001.

Throughout its six seasons, "Reba" received critical praise and success, earning McEntire a Golden Globe nomination. It was discontinued on February 18, 2007, after over 8 million people saw the series finale.

McEntire has been vocal about bringing the show back on the air since its closure, raising the prospect in several interviews, and has now disclosed the idea is still a huge possibility.

McEntire stated in a new interview with "The Bobby Bones Show" on Friday that fans might be getting a relaunch of her Emmy-nominated comedy, "Reba," very soon. The award-winning singer explained that much progress has been made so far and that she was eager to work with the show's cast again.

"We've really been trying hard to do a reboot of the Reba show," the Broadway alum told the iHeartRadio host (via People.) "I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years."

As per her time on the show, McEntire noted that she enjoyed starring in her role as Reba Hart, a divorced mother who tries to grapple with many difficult life situations.

"It was fun, the cast, the crew, everybody we got to work with and play with; they were wonderful people," she said. "We wanted to get back together like a reunion and have fun, so hopefully, that will happen one day."

While McEntire may be the most vocal advocate for a "Reba" relaunch, other former cast members have also spoken out about the idea. In a February interview on The Art of Kindness podcast, actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who portrayed Hart's oldest daughter Cheyenne Montgomery (née Hart), discussed working with McEntire and the concept of resurrecting the iconic series.

"She's so powerful because she walks the walk. I get so excited when people ask me how she is. I'll happily go on glowingly about this woman. She's so strong even in uncertain moments, and she's super grateful and gracious and kind," the 42-year-old actress said.

When asked if she would be interested in a "Reba" relaunch, Swisher said, "Are you kidding me? We'd love to do [a reboot]," expressing her desire to reprise her character in some capacity in the future.

Considering McEntire's well-known friendship with Melissa Peterman, who played her on-screen adversary Barbra Jean, there's no reason a resurrection of "Reba" couldn't happen in the near future if all the necessary requirements are put together.

Peterman was present to support and celebrate her friend's achievement when she was recognized by the Kennedy Center in 2018. She also worked as a screenwriter for the 2019 American Country Music Awards, hosted by McEntire, who at the time revealed that her former co-star was perfect for the position due to their great relationship that has spanned many years.

"I wanted Melissa in there because she knows my voice, she knows what I like, what I don't want in there, because I worked with her for so many years," McEntire shared as per The Boot, "and she is one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life."

The pair, Peterman and McEntire, will appear together again in an upcoming Lifetime film, "The Hammer," their fourth collaboration, having once played recurring roles on "Working Class," "Baby Daddy," and the hit series "Young Sheldon."

"Everybody here comes the life of the party! This duo is getting back together, and we couldn't be more excited," Lifetime tweeted about the reunion on their Twitter page.

"The Hammer" is based on the actual tale of Judge Kim Wheeler and follows seasoned lawyer Kim Wheeler (McEntire) as she is named judge of the 5th District of Nevada when the incumbent dies under unexplained circumstances.

Peterman will take on the role of a local brothel owner and Kim's sister, who find herself accused of having a hand in the former judge's death. In addition, Rex Linn, McEntire's real-life lover, appears in the film.
