The rapper– who also doubles as the only son of Cyndi and her actor husband, David Thornton– was arrested around 1:40 am when the police noticed a 2014 Mercedes Benz C350 illegally parked at the corner of West 140th Street and Broadway.

Upon a quick computer check, the police realized the car was stolen. They ran the license plates on the car, and records showed that it belonged to another vehicle. When the VIN was checked, it also came up as having been stolen two years ago.

He Was Attending A Memorial When The Incident Happened

According to the NYP, Declyn was attending a memorial service for Ethan Reyes, a 14-year-old up-and-coming rapper who was stabbed on the subway.

Reyes was stabbed to death in a brawl with another teenager at the 137th Street/City College subway station. While it was unclear what the misunderstanding was, Reyes performed under the name "Notti Osama."

Representatives for Declyn or his mother have not responded to People's request for comment.

While they've largely stayed out of the public eye, the family appeared together in the 2013 "Cyndi Lauper: So Unusual" series, which ran for only one series on We TV.

In a 2008 interview with The Guardian, Cyndi opened up about the impact of fame on her son, adding that he often felt the pressure of being her son. She shared that Declyn was just two years old when he realized his mom was a pop icon.

"Someone came up to me in the street and kept talking and talking. Declyn said afterwards, 'Who are you?' And I said, 'I'm a mommy.' And he said, 'No, you're not — you're Cyndi Lauper!'" Cyndi recalled at the time.

The "True Colors" artist also expressed the worry of her fame taking a toll on her son.

"It's hard for him," she explained. "People look at him, and he feels the pressure of being my son."

At age 18, Declyn started his music journey and released his first song, "Wavy." The song accrued a lot of success, and, as a result, he made a name for himself in the world of hip-hop.

However, his mom shared with The New York Post that she didn't advise her son when he was about to foray into the music industry.

"When you're a teenager, you're not looking for advice from your parents – you want to do your own thing," the "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" artist shared.

"It's hard for any kid, especially with famous parents. So I never talk about anything I ever did in my career. You don't want to live in anyone's shadow – you need to make your own shadow."
