Pop icon, Britney Spears’ conservation case is quite far from over!

In September 2021, a court suspended the legal shackle placed on the singer and dismissed it in November 2021. However, Britney and her team have not backed down from demanding explanations from her father, Jamie Spears, for many of the decisions made during the conservatorship.

Spears’ father, who requested conservatorship from a court in 2008, acted as her only conservator for the 13 years it was granted. During that time, Britney would make several complaints about how her privacy was being violated.

Jamie has now been ordered to appear in Los Angeles for a deposition before August 12 and produce all surveillance records requested by Britney’s lawyers.

Variety reported that Jamie was ordered on Wednesday by Los Angeles Superior Court judge Brenda Penny to take part in a deposition concerning his conduct as conservator over the pop diva for more than 13 years. The 70-year-old is now expected to schedule a deposition before August 12 after he did not refuse to oblige the previous notices Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart had given him.

In addition to making sure Jamie makes himself available for deposition, judge Penny ordered Spears’ father to produce all documents related to electronic surveillance used during the conservatorship period.

During the litigation battle that lasted for almost a decade, Britney’s team had raised in court allegations that Jamie misused his position to intrude on their client’s privacy. They accused him of hiring a security firm that performed illegal acts of surveillance of the singer, such as monitoring her and bugging her bedroom to ensure he was privy to her private conversations.

With the court granting the deposition, it is expected that Britney’s team, led by Rosengart, would ask all the tough questions, which by law can be used against Jamie in future court cases.

At the court hearing, the issue of Britney being deposed was also brought into play. Jamie’s lawyer Alex Weingarten had demanded last month that the pop star be deposed for several reasons, including comments she had made on social media during the litigation battle.

Rosengart argued against the move and had earlier labeled it in a previous court appearance as a retaliatory action from Jamie’s team, adding that they were abusing the legal process to muddle up the probe of Jamie’s handling of funds and alleged surveillance of the singer.

“You don’t sit down a victim for a deposition to be deposed by the victimizer,” Britney’s lawyer told the judge, opining that doing so would be “re-traumatizing” to Britney.

Rosengart continued: “She’s not the accuser. She’s not the alleger,” he said. “Ms. Spears is not a plaintiff here. Ms. Spears is not a defendant here.”

Judge Postponed Making A Decision

Rosengart would also argue that his client’s father is only filing motions to profit from legal fees instead of letting his daughter “move on with her life.” He claimed all possible information needed by Britney’s father’s team was already in Jamie’s possession since he was in charge of the conservation all through the years.

Weingarten stated that if the judge rules that the singer is not required to take a deposition, her father would not have a “fair day in court.” According to the attorney, Jamie is being made to face a “different standard” than the other parties in the case, even when the allegations against him are yet to be proven.

The judge postponed reaching a judgment on the matter, ordering both legal teams to write briefs to decide if the pop star should sit for a deposition and submit them by July 22. Subsequently, the court will address the issue at a session scheduled for July 27.

Away from the legal troubles brewing from her conservation case, Britney has opted to enjoy her new lease on life to the fullest by tying the knot with her long-term lover Sam Asghari. The Iranian-born actor, who supported the singer’s battle against her conservatorship, wedded the pop diva sometime last month.

Britney’s ex-husband Jason Alexander tried to gate crash the event hours before did actual wedding was held. However, he was caught by security and arrested and is now facing a four-count charge, including felony stalking, vandalism, and battery.

Friends like Madonna, who kissed Spears during the reception, as well as Selena Gomez, Maria Menounos, and Ansel Elgort, attended the wedding. Also seen at the event were will.i.am, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton with her husband Carter Reum, and her mother, Kathy Hilton.

Unsurprisingly, most of Britney’s family members were missing as the singer’s familial ties weakened over the course of her conservatorship litigation.
