A number of influencers and celebrities like Armie Hammer, Ed Westwick, and Sophia Richie are in hot water online after visiting Saudi Arabia and promoting the EDM music festival MDL Beast in Riyadh. Between the allegedly massive paycheck for the promotion and the human rights injustices being committed in the country against women and members of the LGBT community, many are side eyeing the decisions of those promoting the event.
Model and activist Emily Ratajkowski spoke out about the controversy on her Instagram, explaining that she turned down the trip.
"It is very important to me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community, freedom of expression and the right to a free press. I hope coming forward on this brings more attention to the injustices happening there."

Actor and '90s heartthrob Ryan Phillippe was one of the celebrities who took part in the event, posting a number of photos on his Instagram with the #MDLBeast hashtag.
When people came into his comment sections questioning his involvement due to the rights violations and the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Phillippe... did not handle things well. He responded to a number of comments, deflecting blame and focusing on his love of travel. He clearly spent a long time reading his Instagram comments and chose many to respond to in a confrontational manner.
When his decisions were questioned, Phillippe lashed out in a major way.
"cuz we're all human f-ck off"
"Your government is without fault? Cool. I’ve never known of one. Progress and change take time. It is happening here and was an awesome place to visit."
"1st of all I’m traveling many places in the mid east. 2nd, find me a country without issues, i’ll wait. 3rd things are changing and progressing rapidly in KSA and the people are lovely. pay better attention and quit virtue signaling, princess"
“Quit virtue signaling, Princess,” he tells another commenter asking how much he’s getting paid for these posts. pic.twitter.com/fliS8XArBr

When one commenter pointed out that "human rights is [sic] not exist in this country," Phillippe lashed out again.
"“Yes it does. Read something recent. Better yet read about other countries present or past as they changed and evolved. Grow up. Get off the internet."
Perhaps Phillippe wasn't aware of the VERY recent murdering and jailing of protestors in Saudi Arabia. Maybe he should read about other countries, grow up, and get off the internet. Or he can just continue to get paid to shill for violent regimes.
