Actor Dwayne Johnson is going to be the Master of Ceremonies during the annual Shark Week event on Discovery.

According to NPR, the first Shark Week actually kicked off all the way back in 1988, making it one of the longest-running annual TV events.

Last year, Discovery aired several exciting specials, including, "Alien Sharks: Greatest Hits," "Cuba's Secret Shark Lair," "Guy Fieri's Feeding Frenzy," "Shark Tank Meets Shark Week," "Sharkwrecked," "Great White Shark Babies," "Sharks Gone Wild," and "Naked and Afraid Of Sharks," in a play off of the popular Discovery series "Naked and Afraid."

This year, Shark Week is back with a host of new specials, and Discovery has brought on the star of DC's "Black Adam" to serve as 2022's Master of Ceremonies.

Dwayne Johnson To Serve As 2022's Shark Week Master Of Ceremonies

On Monday, The Rock told his followers to get ready for the “BIGGEST WEEK OF TV.” He said that he was “honored” to be the first-ever Master of Ceremonies for Discovery’s annual Shark Week event. He revealed that his very own production company, Seven Bucks Productions, had partnered with Discover to bring fans a “VERY SPECIAL (and bad a--) SHARK WEEK.”

The Hawaiian native revealed that he filmed his footage exclusive in his home state, where “these beautiful predators AUMAKUA (gods) are deeply revered & respected in our Polynesian culture.” The “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” actor also pointed out the details of his tattoo, where he explains that “shark teeth are throughout to protect my ancestors and our MANA.”

He encouraged his followers to “JOIN US JULY 24th!” and capped off the post with the hashtag #BiggestWeekOfTV.

The official Food Porn Instagram account responded with four shark emojis.

Kenta Seki commented, “Wooooo will definitely be tuning in.”

According to Discovery's website, 2022's Shark Week will begin on July 24 and go through July 30, wrapping up the month of July. Discovery teased that this year's event will "get your heart pumping with 25 hours of new shows featuring never-before-seen footage of walking sharks, groundbreaking findings, and more mega-breaches."

In addition to Dwayne Johnson serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the 34th year, Discovery has announced a plethora of special guests, including Tracy Morgan, Sal Vulcano, James Murray, Brian Quinn, and the cast of "Jackass."

Entertainment Weekly compiled a list of all 25 specials that fans can look forward to watching this year, as well as the dates that each one will be on TV.

Residents of North Carolina will probably be interested in “The Haunting of Shark Tower,” which will be available on Discovery+ on July 15. The description for the special reads:

“News of a harrowing shark encounter at North Carolina's Frying Pan Tower has underwater cinematographer Andy Casagrande and Shark Expert Kori Garza on a dangerous quest to discover whether great white sharks are moving into the state's waters."

Fans of “Jackass” Will probably be interested in “Jackass Shark Week 2.0,” which airs on July 24 at 9 PM. The description for the special reads:

"Johnny Knoxville, Chris Pontius, Wee Man, Jasper, Dark Shark, Zach Holmes and Poopies are back to finish what they started. After Knoxville sent the guys on a terrifying Shark Week mission last year, Knoxville is joining the boys as they head out to get their friend Poopies over his fear of sharks."

Fans of the “Impractical Jokers” will also be happy to see that they are getting their own Shark Week special this week. The working title for the special is called “Impractical Jokers Shark Week Spectacular” and airs on July 26 at 8 PM. The description for the special reads:

"The Impractical Jokers are the kings of hijinx and fearlessness in the face of public humiliation but see what happens when they set out to dispel the myth that sharks are man-eating beasts the only way they know how – with extreme, mortifying challenges and dares."
