The Marvel Cinematic Universe might not be big enough for two Captain Americas, and Chris Evans seems more than willing to step down from the position. He already has handed over the reins to Anthony Mackie, his friend and longtime co-star.
Evans played the role of Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, from 2011 to 2019 and officially retired at the end of “Avengers: End Game.” In a tweet, he recently clarified his retirement from the position, stating that Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, is the new Captain America.
Wilson was originally known in the MCU as Falcon and first featured in the Captain America role during the Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

On July 8th, Evans responded to a post by The Hollywood Reporter on Twitter. The post speculated as to whether Evans would reprise his role as the iconic superhero in the recently announced fourth Captain America film. The film stars Mackie and will be directed by filmmaker Julius Onah.
A part of the publication’s post read, “If the question of who is entitled to carry the shield continues, all bets are off.” Evans responded to the tweet, “Sam Wilson is Captain America.” Straight to the point, his response left no room for question.
His tweet also hints that the 41-year-old actor is not making an appearance in the upcoming film or any other Marvel films in the new phase, confirming that his time in the MCU is truly over.

Chris Evans Recently Spoke About Moving On
Evans recently opened up during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment about how it has been to move on from Captain America. He also spoke about how much he supports and believes in Mackie taking on the role.
The “Knives Out” star said, “No one better to do it. I mean he does it justice and I’m so proud of him and I can’t wait to see what they do in the future with it.” However, as Mackie moves into his new role, Evans is also growing his career and trying out new things.
He featured as the voice of action hero Buzz Lightyear in the recently released film “Lightyear.” The film is based on the story of the fictional superhero from the iconic “Toy Story” film franchise.
Chris Evans Said It Was A Bittersweet Goodbye
During the interview, Evans admitted that moving on from Captain America and the MCU has been a bittersweet experience. He said, “You know, it’s different. For ten years, you always have a movie around the corner. For ten years, you finish one; your life is scheduled by, ‘OK, in six months we have press, six more months we start the next movie.’
He continued, “To kind of have open waters … there are parts of it that are nice, and there are parts of it that I really, really miss because it was a role that meant a lot to me. And I love those people. And it’ll be the best 10 years of my professional life without any question, forever.”
