Olukoya and Young, who got engaged during the season 18 finale of the show, announced their split via Instagram last month.
"I know I speak for both of us when saying having a relationship in the public eye has not been easy," Young began, per Us Weekly. "I'm struggling to say that Nayte and I will be going our separate ways, but I stand with him in knowing that heaviness that is present in both of our hearts as this relationship has been very real for us."
In an additional note directed at Nayte, she wrote, "You quickly became my best friend, and the love I have for you is incredibly strong."
Young concluded by sharing that she was "deeply hurting and will need time and space to work through this heartache."
"When we started this journey, we were looking for our Soulmates. Our forever. Our best friends. However, as we grow and learn, we also realize that sometimes somebody you hold dear to your heart isn't somebody you're meant to spend the rest of your life with," Olukoya began his statement on his page.
"Michelle and I are going to move forward separately. Hearts are heavy, emotions are high, and we are dealing with it the best way we can. Michelle and I will always cheer each other on, but we will be cheering from a distance moving forward."
He added that the relationship and their feelings for each other were genuine despite having met on a reality show. He also asked for privacy so they could "mend our hearts in the privacy of our own lives."

"I went on the show with no expectations. Just an open mind and an open heart," the reality TV star added on his Instagram Story. In fact, he gave Young a shoutout for further opening up his heart. The pair have always had a long-distance relationship. Olukoya lives in Austin, Texas, while Young lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before their split, they had plans to move in together.
"If we're not hanging out, we're texting [or] FaceTiming. We do a lot of movie nights over FaceTime or Zoom. We've been making it work. But, he's been in Minnesota for a little bit now, so it's been nice," Young gushed to Us Weekly.
"Yeah, it'll happen. However, we like to make sure that we're always making very calculated decisions and always looking at all of our options," she concluded.

With their plans no longer coming to fruition, Young hopes to donate the $200,000 given to them by ABC.
"That was gifted to both of us, and I think that's something that is going to be decided how that's going to be utilized, going forward," she admitted on the "Almost Famous" podcast.
Although they haven't officially decided what they would be using the money for, she has started putting some things in place like "building an organization or just promoting the change that I've been talking about."
