When is Ken Jennings coming back to host “Jeopardy!”?
That’s the question that many fans have been asking. Fortunately, it looks like the answer is going to be sooner than most fans expected. A few weeks ago, “The Big Bang Theory” alum Mayim Bialik took over hosting duties, although Ken assured fans that they would see him again before the end of the season.
As season 38 draws to a close, fans want to know not only when Ken will come back to host, but if he will be named the permanent successor of late host Alex Trebek, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer back in 2020.
Ken Jennings Will Return To Host ‘Jeopardy!’ On…
According to TV guide listings, Ken Jennings will make his return to the “Jeopardy!” stage on Monday, July 18, so fans only need to wait four more episodes to see Ken host their favorite trivia game show again.
It is expected that he will host the final two weeks of season 38, which runs through Friday, July 29. From then on, the show will take a hiatus until season 39 returns in September, meaning that fans have quite a while to wait for new episodes.
However, producers have yet to make an announcement as to who is going to host season 39 in the fall. Right now it seems like it is a toss-up between Ken or Mayim. Many users on social media seem to prefer Ken, but it’s possible that they will both continue to host when the show returns in the fall.
Who Is Going To Be The Next Host Of ‘Jeopardy!’?
Fans of the game show “The Chase” noticed that Ken was noticeably absent from season three of the game show, which also features “Jeopardy!” greats Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer. Season three did add three new faces, including popular champ Buzzy Cohen, who hosted the 2021 Tournament of Champions.
Fans have been clamoring to see Buzzy host again, especially since no host has been announced for the 2022 Tournament of Champions, which is expected to take place this November. It’s possible that “Jeopardy!” producers might ask Buzzy to return to host this tournament as well.
Considering that Mayim is busy with her commitments to her Fox sitcom, “Call Me Kat,” it seems unlikely that she would give up her successful acting career to host “Jeopardy!” full-time. However, she hosted the Professor’s Tournament last year and the primetime National College Championship earlier this year.
Many fans are speculating that producers might keep Ken on as the regular host of the show and keep Mayim on as the host of special tournaments and primetime events. With the introduction of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” coming to ABC on Sunday nights starting this September, it also begs the question as to who will host that new spin-off show as well.
“Jeopardy!” executive producer Michael Davies might have actually already given fans an answer.
Michael Davies Hints A Hosting Announcement Will Come ‘Very, Very Soon’
As The Blast previously reported, Davies said, “We hope to have a hosting announcement very, very soon” late last month.
“But with all of our plans for Jeopardy!—which is more Jeopardy!, not less, more versions—we’re going to need multiple hosts to represent the entire audience, to represent the entire country, in order to take this franchise forward,” he added.
Breaking that down even further, Davies said “we’re going to need multiple hosts.” It’s possible that producers plan to hire several new hosts to represent “Jeopardy!”, especially if there are more spin-offs planned than just “Celebrity Jeopardy!”.
“Reading Rainbow” host LeVar Burton revealed that he was “wrecked” after he didn’t get the job as the new “Jeopardy!” host and indicated that he didn’t receive a fair shot during his guest audition in a recent interview. Although he has been hired on to create and host a new game show based on Hasbro’s “Trivial Pursuit,” there may be room for Burton on another “Jeopardy!” stage in the future.
At this time, it’s unclear what the future of “Jeopardy!” is. The only thing fans know right now is that Ken Jennings will return to host on Monday, July 18, and many fans are looking forward to it!
