Emily Blunt and John Krasinski: It All Started With Pizza 12 Years Ago!

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski have a beautiful love story that spans more than a decade. On July 10, they celebrated their 12th anniversary, and still seem to be as much in love as the day they got married. Here's a timeline of their fairytale romance and life together.

The two actors first met in November 2008 in a Los Angeles restaurant through a friend. At that time in Krasinski's life, he said he wasn't looking for a relationship, but that quickly changed when he met Blunt, 39. "Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, 'Oh god, I think I'm going to fall in love with her,'" he said on a 2011 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "It's one of those things where as soon as you meet someone you kind of know."

Krasinski was with actor Justin Theroux, and Blunt was with a friend. "It's kind of a sad, lame story. I was in a restaurant, he was in the restaurant. I was sitting with a mutual friend," Blunt said on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2018. "And my friend Gray goes 'Oh my god, that's my friend John.' And that was it. He was sitting with our friend Justin Theroux, and he abandoned Justin and came over to us. He just stood there and made me laugh." Shortly after their chance meeting, their first date happened. The two met for pizza at his apartment.

Less than a year after that first date, the couple got engaged in August 2009. While they kept most of the details about the proposal to themselves, Krasinski did say they both cried during that important life-changing moment. He told Access Hollywood, "It was very casual and I was nervous."

The two got married in a quiet ceremony on July 10, 2010 at George Clooney's estate in Lake Como, Italy. Krasinski told Elle in 2016 about how it came to be that Clooney offered his estate to the couple for their big day. "George said, 'I have this place and you should feel free to use it.' Only on the fourth ask did I say yet. Because the first three times I thought, there's no way he is serious. But I started to see his feelings get hurt. I actually hurt George Clooney's feelings."

Their love has only grown more and more over the years. In April 2013, Blunt told InStyle that, "meeting John really changed my life." She further went on to say, "When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible. There's someone behind you on your good days and someone in front of you on your bad days." Krasinski shared that sentiment and in August 2015 told People that he is her number one fan. "It's really that we just got lucky. It's one of those things, I'm having more fun now than the day I met her, and it's pretty wild," he said.

In September 2013, the celebrity power couple confirmed they are expecting their first child. In February 2014, the two announced the birth of their daughter, Hazel Grace, on social media. "Wanted to let the news out directly. Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!" Krasinski, 42, wrote on Twitter.

The family of three became a family of four in June 2016 when daughter Violet was born. Krasinski again shared his big news on Twitter, "What better way to celebrate the 4th...than to announce our 4th family member! 2 weeks ago we met our beautiful daughter Violet #Happy4th."

In March 2017, the couple announced they were doing their first film together, a new horror film, "A Quiet Place." Krasinski captioned a photo of the couple on Instagram, "Question: 'John, who's the one actor you've been wanting to work with?' Answer: (see above)." In April 2018, "A Quiet Place" debuted. Krasinski directed and starred in the movie alongside his wife. He told People, "I've never have loved my wife more than after we did this movie. For me, it was a trust thing. We trust each other in day-to-day life for sure, but when you trust each other in this way it's different."

After the success of their first film together, the two confirmed they were working on "A Quiet Place Part II" in July 2019. Blunt told Variety that they were hesitant to do a sequel at first. "We were both really reluctant and unnerved at the idea of trying to do another one," she explained. "A lot of people came into the studio and tried to pitch ideas and we were both like, 'We're not going to do it.'" But then Krasinski came up with the idea to have Millicent Simmonds, who played their daughter in the first movie, take the lead role in the sequel and that sealed the deal for the two. The sequel premiered in May 2021 and was the first movie to pass $100 million in U.S. ticket sales during the pandemic.
