Cameron Diaz Shares SHOCKING Story About Being Used As A 'Drug Mule'

Actress Cameron Diaz has confessed that she was once used as a drug mule before she landed a major role as the leading lady in the comedy-fantasy film "The Mask."

The actress' shocking revelation comes as she prepares to return to the big screen in the comedy film "Back In Action" opposite Jamie Foxx. The "Knight And Day" actress has been on an eight-year absence that started following her feature in the 2014 film "Annie."

The 49-year-old explained that the ordeal occurred when a modeling job she scored in Paris turned out to be a likely scheme to use her as a mule to bring drugs into Morocco, which nearly got her in big trouble.

Speaking on the Second Life podcast last week, Diaz told host Hillary Kerr about a time before her acting career when she was used as a mule to bring drugs into Morocco. At the time, she was living in Paris and had lucked out on starting a modeling career after she moved there from California.

"I was there a year and didn't work one day," Diaz described her time in Paris, adding that she failed at landing modeling gigs. "I got like one job, but, really, I think I was a mule carrying drugs to Morocco- I swear to God."

The actress said that her employers had given her a locked suitcase that allegedly contained her "costumes."

When approached by Moroccan officials to reveal its contents at the airport's check-out, she began to fear as she realized that she could be carrying illegal substances that could land her in trouble.

Diaz continued, "I'm this blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl in Morocco. I'm ­wearing torn jeans and platform boots with my hair down-this is really unsafe. I told them, 'I don't know, it's not mine, I've no idea whose it is.'"

The consequences of being found with drugs at the time might have resulted in a ten-year trafficking prison term for Diaz. Fortunately for her, she left the luggage with the officials and returned to France, stating that was her first and only job in Paris.

After returning home to California, Diaz would find herself being sought after for a role alongside Jim Carrey in the "Mask." The actress revealed that a casting agent informed her of the producers' desire for someone with her looks to audition for the part.

Diaz was skeptical about it as she had not forgotten about her failed career as a model in Paris; plus, she had no prior experience as an actress. However, renowned filmmaker Chuck Russell who was directing the movie saw her as the perfect pick and ultimately offered her the part which announced her into Hollywood.

Released on July 29, 1994, "The Mask" turned out to be a critical and commercial success, grossing over $351 million on an $18–23 million budget. Despite being Diaz's debut acting job, it established her as a leading lady in Hollywood and helped increase Carrey's popularity.

Since then, she has starred in films such as Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York," "Knight and Day," in which she co-starred with Tom Cruise, "The Holiday," "What Happens in Vegas," and the hit franchise "Charlie's Angels."

Her leading roles unexpectedly labeled her as one of the most bankable actresses in Hollywood, in addition to landing her multiple accolades, including nominations for four Golden Globe Awards and a BAFTA Award.

Diaz took a long hiatus in 2014 after the release of "Annie" in which she co-starred alongside Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, and Rose Byrne. She married Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden the following year, and they welcomed a daughter via surrogacy in 2019.

Diaz is set to return to the big screen in the upcoming Netflix movie "Back in Action," starring opposite Foxx, who coincidentally also shared the set with her in her last film feature "Annie."

According to Deadline, Foxx dropped the announcement via his Twitter page, where he recorded a conversation between himself, Diaz, and Tom Brady, who was jokingly called in to teach the actress how to "unretire."

He captioned the post, "Cameron, I hope you aren't mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!!"

The plot of the action-comedy remains unknown but would be directed by Seth Gordon from a script he co-wrote with Brendan O'Brien. Good One Productions and Exhibit A are producing the film, while Foxx joins Datari Turner and Mark McNair as exec producers.
