Kim Kardashian Believes She's An 'Underdog' For This Reason

While fans see Kim Kardashian as one of the most successful women her age, she recently opened up about how she truly felt about herself. She noted that she thought of herself as an "underdog" and wished she was more respected by people.
In an interview with Allure, she gave details about this feeling and spoke about herself as a reality star. She insisted that she'd "always just been an underdog" throughout her career, and being a reality star wasn't highly rated.

Kim Kardashian Doesn't Feel Respected
"Being on a reality show and that's not respected," Kardashian said to Allure. When asked why she felt like this by writer Danielle Pergament, she claimed she wasn't taken seriously by people around her. This always made her feel like she had to work extra hard to prove herself.
"Feeling like I need to work harder to show you guys that I'm not the person you think." She noted. For example, she recalled an incident in London with the British news outlet, which reported that she was "rejected" from attending the Queen's Jubilee celebration.
As per Insider, the star and her boyfriend had been denied tickets by the BBC and Buckingham Palace. However, a source close to the star told them that the reports were wrong and that Kardashian had already planned to return home with Pete Davidson, her boyfriend, before the event.
She Called Them Out
In response to this, Kardashian called out the news outlet and cleared things up. She noted that she and her boyfriend only planned to visit London for a few days and couldn't possibly have been around for the event. "I was in London with my boyfriend who's filming a movie, and we're only here two days," Kardashian said. "But [the headline] is, 'Kim: Rejected!'"
The 41-year-old star has also defended her family from criticism and fake news in the past. She called fans out for criticizing her sister Kylie Jenner for being called a future "self made billionaire" by the 2018 Forbes list.
In an interview with Refinery29 that year, she noted that she knew some people who grew up in successful families but weren't "as successful as Kylie." Also, they weren't as criticized as her and her family.
Kim Kardashian Feels Too Criticized
During the interview, Kardashian also took time to point out that sometimes she felt too criticized by the public. She recalled some backlash she got on social media, especially when she wore the Marilyn Monroe dress to the MET Gala. She was called out for losing 16 pounds in 21 days to fit in the dress in May.
According to her, she didn't lose weight unhealthily and insisted that she was more "criticized" by other celebs who had done the same thing. For example, she compared her situation to those of other stars who had to change their bodies for movie roles and didn't receive as much backlash as she did.
She said, "If I was starving and doing it really unhealthy, I would say that, of course, that's not a good message." "But I had a nutritionist, I had a trainer. I have never drunk more water in my life. I don't see the criticism for other people when they lost weight for roles — they are [considered] geniuses for their craft. There are so many things out there that are so not accurate and not true."
'I've Always Been The Underdog'
While this got the attention of many fans, this wasn't the first time the reality star expressed how she felt about herself. In an appearance on the Making Space podcast with Hoda Kotb in April, she also noted that she felt underestimated by fans when she appeared in public.
She also referred to herself as an "underdog" but assured that she had no problems with it. She loved 'surprising' people by showing them how hard she worked. "I've always been the underdog, always," she told the host. "And that's OK with me. If anything, I like for someone to be pleasantly surprised and maybe expect less. [Then] be blown away when maybe I give them more than they thought that I would ever give them."
She added, "I really don't mind being the underdog, and being thought [of] differently and proving myself, because I think that's what always kept that fire under me." In the interview with Allure, she referenced this statement by saying that she loved doing reality TV. It gave her the chance to show fans who she truly was.
After their longtime family reality series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" ended, she was excited to launch "The Kardashians" in April this year. "I think that's also why I love doing the reality show," she said. "The chance to show people who I really am."
