While Monica Ruiz, perhaps best known for her recent role in the controversial Pelton commercial, has been acting and modeling for quite some time, she recently has risen to fame as a result of the backlash on social media. This, of course, has presented Ruiz with several opportunities since then, and now she has been cast for a role in a high-profile soap opera.
Her latest opportunity is on the show, The Bold and Beautiful, which features the glamorous life of the Los Angeles fashion scene. While we know that she has been cast, her exact role has no been determined as of yet.
What started it all for this aspiring actress and model could have never been predicted. Ruiz took on the role of a wife in a Peloton commercial where her husband buys her a stationary exercise bike. She then proceeds to film every session that she has using it over the course of the year, as well as, the moments leading to her waking up and getting prepared to use it.
At the end of the commercial, her husband and her watch the video compilation, which is puzzling in itself, but she ultimately thanks him for getting the Peloton bike for her. What seemed like a harmless Christmas advertisement turned into a severe backlash on social media.

To Ruiz’s bewilderment, she couldn’t understand why there was so much negativity surrounding the Peloton commercial. But, as she began looking into comments on social media, it became clear why some people were upset.
One user on Twitter proclaimed, “Nothing says “maybe you should lose a few pounds” like gifting your already rail-thin life partner a Peloton.”
Another stated, “#Peloton has a body-shamed wife waking up at 6 am to bike alone in her mysteriously located living room.”
Despite the negative PR the commercial received, it has single-handedly propelled Ruiz into the spotlight, as everything she does now is seemingly going viral.

Right after the controversy started to flame, an opportunist by the name of Ryan Reynolds, yes that Ryan Reynolds, picked her up for a commercial for his brand of gin called Aviation.
In the commercial, Ruiz is seen sitting at a table with a couple of girlfriends, lamenting the breakup between herself and the ‘husband’ that bought her the Peloton bike. The three clink glasses and cheers to ‘new beginnings’.
It was complete marketing genius by Reynolds and Aviation American Gin, but it also helped Ruiz continue on her upward trajectory of success.

It’s truly amazing how our society works nowadays. One moment you’re starring in an innocent Christmas advertisement for a stationary exercise bike, the next, you’re trending on all social media.
While Peloton had to deal with the PR nightmare that ensued following the airing of the commercial, they didn’t backpedal on their stance. And neither has Ruiz, as she is continuing to land role after role, but in this case, as a television star on the Bold and Beautiful.
For some reason, I suspect that we haven’t seen the last of Monica Ruiz’s name in the headlines, but it’ll be fun waiting for it to pop back up somewhere, sometime.
