Will Oscar Isaac ever return as Moon Knight?
It seemed like the "Star Wars" alum had a blast on the Disney+ Marvel live-action series set, but a second season has yet to be confirmed.
During a recent interview with The Playlist, writer Jeremy Slater opened up on the possibility of a second season, but said that it was mostly in Isaac's hands.
'Moon Knight' Writer Says It's Up To Oscar Isaac To Come Back For Season 2
After playing Resistance Poe Dameron throughout all three films of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Oscar Isaac seemed reticent to return to a major blockbuster franchise.
In the end, he agreed to star as Moon Knight in the Disney+ series; however, he signed a contract for a one-season series and that was it, making it clear he didn't want to be contractually obligated to pop up in other Marvel films.
When asked about the possibility of a second season, Slater said, "I honestly have no idea. I haven't had any conversations with Marvel." He also pointed to Marvel boss, Kevin Feige, saying the decision will "ultimately" be in his hands "because he's the guy with the master plan."
"And of course, Oscar Isaac, because he’s not signed up for the sort of traditional seven-film contract or whatever other actors have signed," Slater pointed out. "Oscar has the ability to do as much or as little 'Moon Knight' as he wants to."
"I think he had a great time playing the character, and I think he really enjoyed the process and is happy he did it," Slater added. "But I also think he’s not a guy who’s going to rush in and just sort of churn out a sequel just because the first one was popular."
Jeremy Slater also revealed that, if the "Inside Llewyn Davis" actor does return, he will want to play an active role in the creative development of the project, just like with season one.
"I don’t want to speak for him and put words in his mouth, but my guess is he’s going to want to make sure that there’s an actual story worth telling and that he gets to go to places that he didn’t get to go in this first one and challenge himself in new ways," Slater continued.
"My hope and dream is that we see him again in some form in the MCU, but I have no idea when that will be or what form it will take," he added. "I’m in the dark like everyone else."
Isaac Seems To Squash Hopes For A Possible Second Season Of 'Moon Knight'
In an interview with RadioTimes.com shortly after the finale aired in May, “The Card Counter” star revealed that there are no plans for a second season of “Moon Knight.”
"You know, I think we approached it as 'this is the story.' And let's just put everything out on the table on this story," he explained.
"There are definitely no official plans to continue it," he added. "I think it would depend on what the story is."
However, it does seem that Isaac would be open to returning if given the chance. "That being said, I love being Steven," Isaac went on to say. "I just love it. It's just like, physically, it's so much fun to be him. So, you know, if there was a story that really made sense, I'd be happy to be part of it."
Ethan Hawke, who plays Arthur Harrow, also weighed in on the possibility of a second season.
In a separate interview, Hawke brought up the fact that a second season of "Moon Knight" doesn't have to be greenlit in order for fans to see their favorite characters again. It's possible that the characters could return in a standalone film, or appear in another Marvel ensemble film.
When asked if "Moon Knight" was a limited series or a continuing story, Hawke replied, "The good news is that it's possibly both." He added, "It lives and breathes on its own merits, it functions as a limited series, and if people are engaged and excited by it then it could be the origin story of a larger thing."
"Moon Knight" is currently available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.
