Sister Wives Star Leon Brown Comes Out As Transgender

It's time for a new introduction for one of the children featured on the reality show "Sister Wives." Meet Leon Brown, 26, the only child of Kody and Meri Brown. Leon, or Leo, who was formerly known as Mariah and now uses the pronouns they/them, is ready to introduce "my favorite self" to the world.

Leon posted the news on their Instagram page in an inspiring post that explained the first time, "that I knew I wasn't a girl." This journey to self-discovery included being unapologetic about their true self and not being afraid to share it with everyone. "I was pretty young & unfortunately I grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive. So I continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman."

Leon explained that "being queer and trans are definitely some of my favorite parts of myself. And yet, there are so many things that I am learning to love about myself through this process. Here's to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person I am, to be my favorite self in all contexts." Leon ended the post with a message for those who choose not to use their correct name and pronouns, "Then you do not need to speak to or about me."

Messages of support, love, and happiness filled the comment section of the Instagram post. "Proud of you for being YOU," "Thank you for sharing your truth, Leon, and for letting us all witness this journey alongside you," "Sounds like that person was on a journey of self healing themselves," and "The first sentence, you said it" were just some of the supportive messages from people who follow Leon's page. It was noted that mom, Meri "liked" the post and shared it to her Instagram story with the words, "You are my sunshine." No word yet on if dad, Kody is also being supportive.

After two years of dating, Leon got engaged to their partner Audrey Kriss in March 2019. Audrey came out as transgender on Instagram in December 2021.  Audrey's post included, "Hello friends! I just wanted to let you know that I am transgender and my pronouns are they/them. I'm still going by Audrey." The message was met with love and support. Audrey continued, "I don't want to hide myself from the world anymore. I am so incredibly excited! I am also scared. I am scared of the hate I'll receive, the things people I care about will say about me, and violence. As a white masculine, presenting person comes a lot of privilege, and I'm still scared. I don't want to make this all sad because I am SO happy being me! Being fully myself lately has brought me so much joy! For the first time, I look at my body and I feel free."

Leon is Meri and Kody's only child. The couple are now divorced. Kody is married to Janelle and Robyn, but only legally married to Robyn, and is also divorced from Christine. Between the four wives and Kody, there are 18 children in total, with Leon being the third oldest child in the group.
