We never did get a sequel to the beloved 1982 classic film "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial." The movie ended on a tearful note with E.T. escaping from government imprisonment and experimentation. But before he leaves, E.T. and his best friend, Elliot have one final hug goodbye and E.T. finally gets to go home at last. Elliot stays behind, acknowledging his lifelong bond with the alien and wonders if they will ever meet again. There was always a little hope among audiences that we might get a sequel that would bring these two back together. We never did get to see that reunion. Until today.

Well, it may have taken thirty-seven years, but Elliot and E.T. finally got their reunion! During the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Xfinity's Holiday commercial premiered. It starts out as an ordinary Christmas commercial. Houses abundantly decorated with Christmas lights, children playing in the snow, all up until we see all the electricity and the neighborhood start flickering and growing faulty. Two children are becoming alarmed. It's hard to know where this is going until the children discover, you guessed it, E.T. And who is E.T. looking for? Elliot of course!

In case you were wondering, the answer is yes, that is the real Elliot. As in, that is indeed Henry Thomas, the actor that played the part of E.T.'s best human friend. It's been a long time, and Elliot is now all grown up, married, and with two kids of his own (the kids who found E.T. are Elliot's), but Elliot welcomes him back with open arms. Elliot's family likewise are welcoming to E.T. and he ends up spending the holiday season together and watching Christmas movies on Xfinity.
For the love of God him sobbing like a baby. If you don’t cry during this commercial Especially to the musical and audio cues your childhood sucked. It took me & my dad 25 years to see this movie in it’s entirety. Every time he got sick I had to go to the bathroom.

The commercial repeats the premise of the movie where E.T. starts to become homesick. He communicates to Elliot that he, too, actually has a spouse and child, too. Elliot's kids spring into action and fly-bicycle E.T. to safety and help send E.T. back home. E.T. confirms his bond with Elliot's kids before he takes off for his home planet. No doubt E.T. and his family also have some version of Xfinity in their world, so they can watch holiday movies, too.
pic.twitter.com/Qc13hngdQb Xfinity just dropped a Steven Spielberg approved E.T. Sequel starring Henry Thomas and The Extra-Terrestrial himself, with John Williams score and practical effects to boot! But... this ET 2 commercial begs the question... 1/3 #etcommercial

It may be an Xfinity commercial, but an E.T. and Elliot reunion brought the 80s nostalgia and the tears. It's one of those holiday commercials that tug at the heartstrings and will likely live on in the audience's memory for a long time to come. We'll likely never get a real sequel to E.T., so this commercial will have to do. At least thanks to Xfinity, we do know that E.T. and Elliot got to see each other one last time.
