Actor Bill Bellamy is currently in the unenviable position of choosing whether to attend his father or father-in-law's memorial service. The actor lost his father-in-law in May 2022, and less than a month later, his father passed on.
While out of the country, Bellamy claimed that his sister, Karen Bellamy, set a date for his father's burial service on the same weekend the 57-year-old had planned to lay his father-in-law to rest. He tried to fight the decision by issuing a restraining order; however, it proved futile.
The comedian recently opened up about how devastated he felt after being unable to attend his father's memorial service with his family. He referred to the service as "unauthorized" and asked for prayers while his family endured the painful period.
Bill Bellamy Lost His Father-In-Law And Father
After what he described as an "unauthorized" memorial service, Bellamy revealed that he was being forced to go to either his father's or father-in-law's memorial. According to the actor, his sister, Karen, planned the service without consulting him.
The 57-year-old recently faced an overwhelmingly difficult period after losing first his father-in-law of 21 years, Bernard Baker, on May 17 and then his father, William Bellamy, on June 8. Bellamy and his family are currently in a state of extreme grief and loss.
Besides their sorrow over the deaths, the Bellamy family is currently not on the best terms. The former MTV host revealed that while he was out of the country, his sister, Karen planned to lay his father to rest on June 24. However, this clashed with the same weekend Bellamy and his wife planned to bury his father-in-law in a different state.
He Wanted A Restraining Order
In a bid to change the date, Bellamy attempted to file a restraining order against his sister; however, it was denied. The documents were filed in New Jersey, and the order would have left his sister no choice but to reschedule the date for the service. However, according to the court, there was no proper legal standing for a judge to involve himself in a family dispute such as this.
While talking about the situation to TMZ, the actor revealed that he was devastated by his inability to attend the ceremony with his family. He said, "In the span of less than a month, I lost both my father William Bellamy Senior and my father-in-law Bernard Baker Junior."
Bellamy shed light on how the two influential men had impacted his life and his family in ways he couldn't describe. "These two wonderful men that have impacted my life and my family's lives in ways that are beyond words," he added.
Bill Bellamy Said He Was Disappointed
Still talking to TMZ, Bellamy revealed that his attempt to stop the memorial service failed, and he had to miss one service for the other. "My effort to stop an unauthorized memorial service for my father, which was planned without my knowledge, was not successful," he said.
The "Getting Played" actor continued, "I am devastated my family has to choose to miss one service for another; no one should ever have to be in this position. My father-in-law's memorial service was confirmed back in May when he passed."
Bellamy asked for prayers for his family to help them get through such a heart-wrenching period. "There are no words to express how disappointed I am to not be a part of laying my father to rest, but I look forward to celebrating my father's life and legacy with my wife, his grandchildren and our close friends in our own time. Please pray for our families and give us the time to grieve and process these painful losses in private."

Bellamy and his wife, Kristen, both took to Instagram to post about the death of their fathers. In a post made early this month, Kristen talked about how much soul-searching she had done since the loss. She posted a video montage her daughter made of Bernard in his happiest moments.
She wrote, "My daughter made me this video last night, and it made me cry tears of joy and sadness. Sadness for the physical loss and joy that his legacy made him a video and shared in the joy of my dad's life." The actress described her life as "not IG perfect, but it's just the way I like it."
