'Star Wars' Star Moses Ingram To Star With Natalie Portman In New Series

"Obi-Wan Kenobi" breakout star Moses Ingram will be joining "Star Wars" alum Natalie Portman in a new Apple limited series.

The series was described by Deadline as a collaboration between Apple TV+ and Endeavor Content. The name of the limited series will be called “Lady in the Lake.”

Ironically, Ingram is replacing yet another “Star Wars” alum, Lupita Nyong’o, who exited the project earlier this year. Ingram scored an Emmy nomination for her role in Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” and became the breakout star of the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” live-action Disney+ Star Wars series.

Ingram has reportedly been cast as Cleo Sherwood in the series based on Laura Lippmann’s New York Times bestselling novel.

Deadline provided the synopsis, which they explained:

“It takes place in ’60s Baltimore, where an unsolved murder pushes housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent her life as an investigative journalist and sets her on a collision course with Ingram’s Sherwood, a hardworking woman juggling motherhood, many jobs and a passionate commitment to advancing Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda.”

“Honey Boy” director Alma Har’el is writing the series alongside Sheila Wilson, Zach Shields, Vanessa Baden-Kelley, Briana Belser, Nambi Kelly, Byron Bowers, and Boaz Yakin. Har’el will also direct and executive produce the series alongside producing partner Christopher Leggett through her new production company, Zusa.

Portman, who will be making her return to the Marvel franchise when “Thor: Love and Thunder” hits theaters on July 8, will also executive produce the series alongside producing partner Sophie Mas, Crazyrose principals Nathan Ross and the late Jean-Marc Vallée, along with Julie Gardner for Bad Wolf, Amy J. Kaufman and Layne Eskridge for POV Entertainment, Yakin and Lippman.

This is Portman’s first TV project and Har’els first TV creation as well. Ingram has also starred in Apple’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” where she starred opposite Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as Lady McDuff.

Shortly after the debut of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" on Disney+, Ingram posted some of the harassing Instagram messages she received to her Instagram Stories, including some that included the N-word.

“There’s nothing anybody can do about this,” Ingram said in a video transcribed by The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. I question my purpose in even being here in front of you saying that this is happening. I don’t really know.”

She continued, “The thing that bothers me is this feeling inside of myself, that no one has told me, but this feeling that I have to shut up and take it, that I have to grin and bear it. And I’m not built like that. So, I wanted to come on and say thank you to the people who show up for me in the comments and the places that I’m not going to put myself. And to the rest of y’all, y’all weird.”

Shortly after Ingram posted the messages to her Instagram Stories, the official Star Wars Twitter account decided to step in. They tweeted, "We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist."

They added, "There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist."

Star Ewan McGregor, who plays the titular Kenobi, also decided to speak out to support his co-star.

“Moses is a brilliant actor. She is a brilliant woman. And she is absolutely amazing in this series,” he said. “She brings so much to the series, she brings so much to the franchise. And it just sickened me to my stomach that this had been happening. I just want to say as the lead actor in the series, as the executive producer on the series, that we stand with Moses. We love Moses.”

“And if you’re sending her bullying messages, you’re no Star Wars fan in my mind,” he added. “There’s no place for racism in this world. And I totally stand with Moses.”
