More good news for fans of HBO's smash series "Gossip Girl," as the showrunners' release of the season two teaser revealed a tasty tidbit that will have them anticipating its premiere.

Season one of the teen drama series premiered in July 2021, about a decade after the original CW series concluded its run. It shattered the record for the most-watched HBO Max original series throughout its first weekend, getting audiences captivated by its new concept, stronger narrative, and more diverse ensemble, including non-white leads and LGBT characters.

While the new series has received mainly good feedback since its debut on the streaming network, the showrunners are hoping to liven things up in the impending sequel with cameo appearances by some of the original cast members from the previous CW show.

Gossip Girl Season 2 Brings Back...Georgina Sparks?

The official Instagram account for HBO Max's "Gossip Girl" revival recently dropped a season two teaser on June 22. Fans of the original CW series who stumbled on the clip were hinted at the return of a controversial character Georgina Sparks played by Michelle Trachtenberg.

The scene that spurred the speculations featured a dark-haired beauty sitting alone in a theater, with the camera panned out, making her facial features not so obvious. An intriguing phrase was flashed across the screen, "It only takes one spark to start a fire," which subtly connected with "Sparks" name and her character's reputation for being a bad girl.

Trachtenberg's character from the previous CW hit series had a brief appearance in season one when she had a complicated connection with the show's lead, Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively). She reappeared towards the conclusion of season two for a multi-episode plot arc, then made additional cameos in both seasons three and four.

Trachtenberg's appearances rose in season five, culminating in her featuring in nearly every episode of the show's last season.

Fans' excitement was further heightened when the reboot's showrunner, Joshua Safran, subtly hinted on Twitter at Trachtenberg's possible appearance when he answered a fan's question on who would be the "messiest" in season two.

"How do you define messy? Fun on purpose messy or destruction messy? Same answer, I guess - see the post from GG today," he replied, directing the fan back to the dropped teaser.

As Sparks' son Milo (Azhy Robertson) made a cameo in season one, Safran and the other showrunners have clearly laid the ground for Michelle to reprise her famous role.

He appeared in the fourth episode of the new remake, sending off signals that could only be attributed to sharing similar qualities with his mother. "Clearly, you don't know who I am," the child said to Zoya (Whitney Peak). "My last name is Sparks—really Ivanov. But in this day and age, it's best to leave that out.

While Sparks' son was an intriguing character to follow in season one, seeing other original cast members make appearances stunned both fans who were familiar with their roles.

Yin Chang returned to her prior role as Nelly Yuki. The character was previously one of Blair Waldorf's closest friends and ally but betrayed the Constance Billard Queen Bee by plotting her expulsion in their final year in college and then stealing her slot at Yale.

When the preceding series ended, Nelly was a Women's Wear Daily reporter covering Blair's expulsion from Waldorf Designs. For the new remake, she had switched jobs and currently holds a post as an editor at New York Magazine.

Additionally, Zuzanna Szadkowski, who portrayed the beloved and strongly devoted role of Blair's maid and valued confidant for the show's initial run, came back as Dorota Kishlovsky.

'Gossip Girl' Season Two And Three

It's unknown whether Szadkowski and Kishlovsky will return in season two after their brief appearances in season one. The showrunners have also not revealed how Trachtenberg's anticipated reappearance would fit in with the new season, but given her troublesome personality, one can assume that fans are in for a thrill.

Main characters from season one, Jordan Alexander, Whitney Peak, Tavi Gevinson, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, and Savannah Smith, are slated to return in the sequel.

Production on the second season began in February 2022, following its renewal in September 2021, and will premiere at an unspecified date.

For fans expecting a third season after the upcoming sequel debuts, Safran had previously disclosed to Elle that he planned on continuing the series.

"I have three seasons [planned so far], I could tell you right now," he said. "We didn't know it was going to happen for six seasons the first time. But right now, I definitely have three in my head."
