Jussie Smollett Calls Googling Himself The 'Worst Idea Ever'

On Wednesday, Jussie Smollett sat down with SiriusXM’s Sway Calloway on his radio show, SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning.

During their conversation, the former "Empire" actor said that he feels greater clarity than ever before and discussed the state of his spirit since being convicted of staging a 2019 hate crime against himself earlier this year.

Jussie said that his spirit is clearer than ever before and compared it to being sober before adding that he hoped his comments wouldn't be taken out of context.

"My spirit is so… in such a season of gratitude. Like my, my spirit is, I've never felt more, more clear, I've never felt more sober," he explained. "I hope people don't take that outta context, but I'm sure they will."

However, Jussie seems to be reflecting on all of the positive things in his life, stating that he never felt healthier or more grateful.

"I've never felt healthier and more grateful and more, I've never felt more blessed than I feel now," he said. "So, my spirit is, you know, is really good."

That being said, he revealed that he is still working through things and had no shame in admitting that he's been going to therapy.

"I'm still, you know, still dealing with things still, you know, having to, you know, I'm not shy to say that I am in therapy, as we all should be because a lot of stuff that happened over the last three years, obviously, but also just, you know, just life stuff," he revealed.

"I'm really, really, I'm getting out of the idea of trying to convince or trying to hope that people see the truth of something," he continued. "And I'm really just, I'm going where the love is and that's why I'm here.

Jussie is still going to continue with his career and has recently made his directing debut. That being said, he revealed he's not going to do a lot of press.

"You won't see me everywhere. I'm not doing a lot of press," he said. "Why should we subject ourselves to, to unnecessary pain or salaciousness or whatever. It's like, that's why I come home to family."

Even though Jussie Smollett’s reputation has been through the wringer, he said that, if it never had happened, he would never have known how far his family would go to support him.

"I'm so, it sounds so odd, but Lord knows if I could go back and, and never go through any of this and never have my family or my close people to me ever have to experience what we've experienced," he said.

Jussie emphasized that "family is so important to me," adding, "So I'm always looking in every space that I'm in to create that sort of the same feeling that I get when I'm around my family, that safety, that unapologetic love."

"So, and I know from the depths of my soul, the way that God has brought me through and continues to," he continued. "You know, so I'm just, y’all will hear me say the words grateful a lot. And I really genuinely am."

Although everyone was talking about Jussie's story, he said that he was unaware of how much vitriol was being said about him online.

Jussie said, "I was shut off from the world. I was shut off from the world. I mean like my family, my family took my phone. I did not have my phone. They took, I was not allowed to get on social media."

Jussie said his family "protected" him from the media scrutiny and a lot of the comments that were being spread about him on social media.

"They protected me from it in a really beautiful way," he explained. "And then I, and then probably about a year later, I, I was somewhere with my family, for my older sister Jazz's birthday. And I just, for the first time decided to Google myself."

Jussie called it the "worst idea ever," adding, "Yeah…. I really saw what it was and, and it was so painful. Cause I was like, ‘Ooh, he said that about me. Oh my God. Oh, she said that. What?’"
