Everyone Thought Helen Mirren Was Keanu Reeves' Girlfriend

It was recently discovered that Keanu Reeves recently got a new girlfriend.

Last weekend the actor was seen with the LACMA Art + Film Gala with Alexandra Grant. The two were seen on the red carpet holding hands and looking very happy.

But people saw Grant's silvery hairstyle and immediately thought it was Helen Mirren, which would mean that Keanu Reeves was dating Helen Mirren. He is not.

We can kind of see the resemblance, but still, she doesn't look like Helen Mirren. We know what Helen Mirren looks like, and it's not Alexandra Grant.

This just goes to show how quickly people skim stories and photos and jump to conclusions. And all it takes the stoke the fire is one person who shares on social media that "Helen Mirren is dating Keanu Reeves."

The case of mistaken identity was not lost on Mirren, who commented on the mishap Wednesday night while speaking with "Entertainment Tonight."

"I saw that," Mirren said, and only had nice things to say about Grant. "That was very flattering on me, you know, because she's obviously lovely."

But Mirren is married herself, to director Taylor Hackford. Hackford directed Mirren in the movie The Devil's Advocate, from 1997.

But guess who else appeared in The Devil's Advocate? A one Mr. Keanu Reeves. That's bizarre.

Given that news, then maybe it's easy to see why people would be confused. Then again, The Devil's Advocate was way back in 1997.

Mirren also acknowledged that she at least knows Reeves from that movie.

"I do know Keanu very well. He did a film with my husband and he is just the most adorable, lovely person. So she's a lucky girl and I'm sure that he's a lucky boy."

Apparently the Mirren / Grant mixup was just transitory.

Someone wrote on social media, "I thought keanu was dating helen mirren based on the photos," while someone else said: "For a hot second I thought Keanu was dating Helen Mirren."

Another person tweeted: "For a moment I thought Keanu was dating Helen Mirren and I was like 'Welp, time to beat Keanu savagely' because there's only so much awesome one man can be allowed to have in his life."

Reeves and Grant have known each other for a long time -- they collaborated together on "Ode To Happiness," Reeves' adult picture book.

Either way, people are glad to see that Reeves is so happy.
