Pharrell Williams Halts Show To Attend To Fainting Fan

Lately, there's been a renewed focus on crowd safety, and celebrities such as Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and John Mayer have stopped their concert to attend to the safety of their fans.

Pharrell Williams is showing he's no exception, as he is also all about the safety of his fans who come for his concert. He proved this on Saturday when he stopped his show at the Something In The Water festival in Washington DC. 

This was so that his fans, especially those who fainted during the outdoor event, could receive necessary medical aid.

Singer and songwriter Williams stopped his onstage performance several times at the Something In The Water festival after some of his fans suffered medical emergencies.

In a video shared online per Fox 5 DC, the "Happy" crooner is seen on the stage with Pusha T and No Malice as an announcement rang out to help fans in need of assistance.

"@Pharrell stopped the show from making sure this individual is attended to. Nothing but RESPECT for doing this," they wrote.

Following the concert's end, Williams thanked his audience "for taking care of each other" and shared a video of him and the other music star while having a break on stage.

"Ain't that what we do? We lift people up," Pharrell said in the clip.

"Thank you for taking care of each other tonight, DC. See you tomorrow for Day 3 of #SITWFest @sitw #Juneteenth," Williams tweeted.

In 2021, Travis Scott had a festival in Houston, Texas, attended by 500,000 people and had over eight people dead.

Per Houston's Fire Chief, Samuel Pena, a crowd surge occurred at Scott's show where fans were crushed, trampled, and even gasped for air. While some fans screamed at the top of their lungs for help, the music drowned their cries.

He also shared that no one knew their cause of death until the medical examiner thoroughly examined them.

"At the start of the mass casualty incident, when it was triggered. We transferred 17 patients to the hospital," Peña added. "We won't know the cause of death of the eight confirmed until the medical examiner has completed his investigation, but we are in the process — Houston Police Department — is sending units to the hospitals to identify these patients."

An insider told Us Weekly that the timely response from the Astroworld security saved one or more people from suffering more injuries. They also shared that Scott had to pause his concert several times to ask what had happened.

"He asked everybody in the area to go help them and bring them to the front," the insider explained. "As soon as they were made aware of what was happening, they ended the performance in the interest of public safety."

The following day, the page's social media shared a statement to show support for the affected fans, writing, "Our hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight — especially those we lost and their loved ones. We are focused on supporting local officials however we can."

The statement also confirmed that the rest of the festival had been canceled.

"As authorities mentioned in their press conference earlier, they are looking into the cardiac arrests that took place," the statement read. "We thank our Houston Police Department, Fire Department, and NRG Park partners for their response and support."

Eilish was performing on her world tour when she noticed that one of her female fans was struggling to breathe, and the "Bad Guy" crooner instantly stopped her concert to attend to her.

"You need an inhaler?" Eilish asked the fan before requesting her crew to help out. "Do we have an inhaler? Can we just grab one?"

While her crew was in the process of assistance, she calmed the crowd saying, "It's okay, we got one. Give her some time. Don't crowd. Relax, relax, it's okay. We're taking care of our people; hold on."

Doja Cat paused her show for five minutes to tend to an unwell fan.

"Wait, wait, wait! Somebody needs help over there," she told the large crowd. "Is that right? Am I right? Somebody needs help? I love you guys, but we can't have that happening."

In his first show following the pandemic, Mayer had to stop his concert mid-performance to attend to a fan who appeared to have passed out.

"Stop the show for one second. There's a medic situation right here. Stop for a second. Are they conscious? Give me a thumbs-up if they're alert. Need an AED? Well, that's not someone alert," the singer screamed during their concert.
