Cox spoke to Hill about the reunion special, which she said was very emotional for her and the five other lead cast. The other cast members include Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry.
Cox also spoke about their relationships with each other after the show. She said, "I'm really close with everyone but we don't all see each other." According to the actress, the six leads haven't all been in the same room since they concluded filming back in 2004. But the three ladies of the cast do see each other quite often.
During an interview with Rob Lowe on "Literally! With Rob Lowe," Aniston discussed the reunion and how emotional it was for all the cast members. She said she couldn't stop crying even through filming and that it wasn't just her feeling emotional about the reunion.
She said, "There was a period where we were all kind of in a puddle. Maybe David didn't, I don't think we broke David." She expressed how surprised she was to see LeBlanc in tears, saying, "Mr. Tough Guy. Mr. Impenetrable, our big brother, who would kill anybody if they looked at you wrong. Even he got a little misty."
She Said They Went Through A Lot Together
During her interview with Hill for Variety, Cox also spoke about the experience of talking at the reunion. She said, "Walking on the stage at Warner Bros was the most emotional thing, I just immediately burst into tears. So many things had happened, so many years of being together. You name it, we'd gone through it."
"Friends" is one of the most successful TV shows in history and has gathered an almost cult-like following over the years. It premiered in September 1994 and ended after ten seasons in May 2004. HBO Max announced the reunion special in February 2020 but had to delay it due to Covid-19 disruptions.
Courteney Cox Won't Do Another Reunion
Cox also told Hill that although she doesn't feel like she finally has closure from the show, she won't do another reunion. She said, "Can you imagine? We're 80 and 'let's go back in,'" referencing how much older all the cast are now.
She also shared how lucky she feels that she was able to play Monica and be part of the show. She said, "I can't believe that I got that part and was able to make those friends and be a part of something that's still going on."
During Aniston's interview with Lowe, she also spoke about the emotional burden of filming the reunion. She said having to come together and relive moments from the show "really took us all down way harder than we anticipated."
She also said, "In your mind, you think, 'Oh, this will be really fun to time travel.'" It turns out, ooh, ouch, it's kind of hard to time travel." It seems that she also shares Cox's sentiment in not wanting another reunion.
She Said The Cast Have All Changed
Aniston also spoke about the surreal experience of seeing the set look exactly as it was. She said it had "the exact same everything, down to the little tchotchkes on the shelves." Seeing the exact same set made it apparent how much Aniston and her co-stars had changed since the show ended.
The "Horrible Bosses" actress said, "You know, [in] 16 years, a lot has gone on for each of us. And 16 years ago, we were all sort of wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, and sort of had our whole lives ahead of us—even though we were heartbroken to say goodbye to these 10 years and this family and these people and the job we all loved to do."
Aniston also compared her experience working on "Friends" to taking a "happy pill every single day," which made the reunion even more sentimental than she thought it would be. She explained her feelings and said, "It's nostalgic in a way that's kind of also a little melancholy. Cause a lot has changed, and we have all gone down different roads. Some easy and some not so easy for each of us."
