Priyank Chopra has been receiving some social media backlash thanks to a selfie she shared on Sunday while filming in New Delhi, India. The city of New Delhi is known for its poor air quality and pollution. The 37-year-old star posted a snap where she is wearing a respirator mask and riding in the back of a car.
"Shoot days for #thewhitetiger. It’s so hard to shoot here right now that I can’t even imagine what it must be like to live here under these conditions," Chopra wrote in the caption of her post. "We r blessed with air purifiers and masks. Pray for the homeless. Be safe everyone."
Chopra is in India filming for the Netflix project, "The White Tiger." The film is an adaptation of the 2008 book by author Aravind Adiga.
Her millions of followers were quick to criticize the actress for her lack of action. "Here’s a thought," one fan wrote in the comments section of her post, "Instead of praying why don’t you make a contribution or buy masks for those who can’t afford it ?"
Another fan hinted that an Instagram post is not helping the situation. "And you can do nothing except posting this on social media."
Many other fans thought the post was filled with "hypocrisy" and one even called it "ironic."
Chopra was even criticized for her past behavior and fans pointed out that she has been seen smoking on social media as well. A picture from over the summer showed the star puffing on a cigarette with her husband, Nick Jonas.
The comments were brutal even if they were based in truth. "Yes... We can understand your pain...we pray u get a cigar to purify your lungs!! #doublestandards," one follower commented while another said, "Then stop working in India and stop smoking."
Some comments were aimed at the fact she is being driven around in a private car which causes more pollution than public transportation. "why dont you use public transport instead of private cars to help curb this pollution......" one fan said.

The pollution has been described as "unbearable" by Delhi's chief minister, according to CNN The city has been flagged hazardous on the global air quality index (AQI). Authorities have stopped work at construction sites and other outdoor work environments. There are reports that the city has given out hundreds of face masks to children and put ordinances in place that limit the number of cars allowed on the road.
New Delhi is ranked as the most polluted city in the world but CNN notes that the smog worsens during this time of the year due to weather patterns.
Chopra has also been tasked with playing the voice of Elsa in the dubbed version of "Frozen 2." Hopefully, she will not receive any backlash for her numerous social media posts about her exciting role. "An inspiring, heart-warming story of changing the world and creating your own destiny...join our sisterhood with Elsa & Anna #Frozen2 in cinemas November 22," Priyanka wrote in a recent post. A little Disney magic never hurt anyone.
