Actor Temuera Morrison is about to leave a galaxy far, far away for the far north... literally!
After portraying Jango Fett and numerous clones in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Morrison returned to the Disney franchise to play an older Boba Fett who had somehow miraculously survived his trip into the Sarlacc Pitt.
Temuera Morrison Stars In 'The Book Of Boba Fett'
Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen, attempt to take over the sandy planet of Tatooine and fill the power vacuum left by Jabba the Hutt.
However, many parties have staked a claim to the land, and Boba Fett finds that he needs to enlist the help of allies both old and new if he wants to stake his claim on the territory.
Although "The Book of Boba Fett" was only seven episodes long, some fans criticized the show for not featuring enough of its titular character. In episode 5, "The Mandalorian" returned and took center stage for the two remaining episodes as he reunited with Baby Yoda AKA Grogu AKA the Child. As a result, many fans felt that Boba Fett didn't get a chance to star in his own series and considered "The Book of Boba Fett" as more of a bridge between seasons 2 and 3 of "The Mandalorian."
Season 3 of "The Mandalorian" is expected to hit Disney+ in early 2023; however, it's not immediately known if Morrison will make a cameo appearance. Although his future in the Star Wars franchise remains uncertain, fans can look forward to Morrison making his triumphant TV return in the Sundance series "Far North."
Temuera Morrison To Star In Upcoming Sundance Series 'Far North'
According to Variety, Morrison has been cast in the Sundance series "Far North." Production of the series takes place in his home country of New Zealand, which makes him a natural fit for the role. Part of the show will be filmed in Ahipara, where the true story actually took place.
The series also stars "Top of the Lake" star Robyn Malcolm. She and Morrison play "an everyday couple who foil an international crime ring's largest-ever deal in the Pacific." Series creator David White did extensive research for the series and will direct it as well. He wrote the script along with Suli Moa and Mingjian Cui.
Kelly Martin, CEO of South Pacific Pictures, released a statement that read, "This project has been six years in the making and we are beyond thrilled to now be in the production phase. Far North is an epic story based on real-life events and audiences are going to be taken on an incredible journey when they watch the series."
Shannon Cooper, VP of programming at Sundance Now, added, "Far North is an exact delivery on Sundance Now's promise of providing our audiences with high-quality, thought-provoking, incredibly well-acted, and captivating programming. This story only gets more interesting with each new piece of discovery."
Will Temuera Morrison Ever Return To A Galaxy Far, Far Away?
Although fans are glad to see Morrison getting more TV roles, they would also love to see him return to a galaxy far, far away.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Morrison also seemed to hope for Boba Fett's return. He said, "we've got to bring him back somewhere," adding, "We've got to see the old Boba Fett ... We reintroduced him. We found out some stuff. But I think it's time to get him back to his bad--- ways. No two ways around that."
Fans hoping to see Boba Fett back in action can keep their eyes peeled for him in the upcoming third season of "The Mandalorian," which is scheduled to be released on Disney+ in early 2023.
