Nick Jonas has quietly been dealing with Type 1 diabetes for the last 14 years. The star took to social media to remember his diagnosis and to bring awareness to the "invisible illness" because November is Diabetes Awareness Month.
"14 years ago this month I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes," Jonas wrote in the caption of the selfie he shared on Instagram. "This experience has shaped how I approach my health - working out, eating well, and always thinking about my blood sugar and insulin needs."
Jonas continued, "You can't always see what goes into managing an invisible illness, and Type 1 diabetes can feel lonely and isolating. That's why I co-founded @BeyondType1 in 2015, to make sure no one feels alone with this diagnosis and to share how you can thrive with Type 1 diabetes."

Nick was diagnosed with the disease in 2005 which happens to be the same year he formed the Jonas Brothers with Kevin and Joe. Type 1 diabetes is a condition when the pancreas does not create enough insulin for the body. Low insulin leads to high blood sugar and can affect things like metabolism. It used to be referred to as juvenile diabetes because it is common in children. Jonas learned about his illness when he was just 13-years-old.
"November is Diabetes Awareness Month," Nick continued, "join us at Beyond Type 1 by sharing how diabetes has impacted your life using #TheDropSpotted. I'm so grateful to my fans for your support and kindness!"

Nick's wife, Priyanka Chopra always has his back, especially on social media. "So proud of you love," she wrote in the comments section of his post. He often returns the favor and leaves loving messages on her posts as well. Last month, she shared a picture from backstage at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego for the JoBros' "Happiness Begins Tour."
"Karwa Chauth at a @jonasbrothers concert. Definitely a first I’ll always remember!" She said and Nick left her several big red hearts emojis. Karwa Chauth is a festival celebrated by Hindu women from some regions of India.
The "Sucker" singer has opened up about diabetes in the past. Last November, he shared a "then and now" picture. "The picture on the left is me a few weeks after my diagnosis," he wrote in last year's post. "Barely 100 pounds after having lost so much weight from my blood sugar being so high before going to the doctor where I would find out I was diabetic. On the right is me now. Happy and healthy."
Jonas thanked his support team for helping him along the way, "I’m so grateful to my family and loved ones who have helped me every step of the way. Never let anything hold you back from living your best life." Priyanka commented on the 2018 post and wrote, "Everything about you is special. With or without diabetes.
Whatever he is doing to manage his illness is working and the evidence can be seen at most concerts because he often shreds the guitar with no sleeves.
