In the Twitter clip above, Secret Service agents quickly rush to the President’s side after he took a nasty fall from his bicycle. The Twitter clip was posted by CNN’s White House reporter Kevin Liptak.
Biden had been reportedly trying to greet a group of reporters and residents at the Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware on Saturday morning. Fortunately, he did not appear to have suffered any injuries.
The White House issued a statement to PEOPLE, saying, the POTUS’ foot “caught on the pedal while dismounting” but “he is fine.”
In the video, Biden can be heard saying “I’m good” as a Secret Service agent helps him to his feet. Members of the gathered crowd cheered and applauded as he approached.
The White House statement said that “no medical attention is needed” for the President’s fall, adding, “The President looks forward to spending the rest of the day with his family.”
President Biden Returned Home To Delaware For Father’s Day!
According to The Associated Press, Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, returned to their holiday home in Rehoboth Beach. They celebrated their 45 wedding anniversary together on Friday before celebrating Father’s Day on Sunday.
As PEOPLE reported, Biden has four children from two marriages. In 1972, his first daughter, Naomi Christina Biden, passed away in the same accident that claimed his first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden, in 1972.
His firstborn son, Joseph “Beau” R. Biden III, passed away in 2015 after a long struggle with brain cancer. His two surviving children include one son from his first marriage, Robert Hunter Biden, and one daughter, Ashley Blazer Biden, whom he shares with his current wife.
In honor of Father’s Day weekend, Biden released a statement on Friday to celebrate “the men who help shape our character through their love, guidance, and devotion.”
“Dads and father figures across the country sacrifice so much to support their families and to ensure that their children can lead fulfilling lives,” he said in the official White House proclamation.
The POTUS added that his father “instilled in me some of the most important values that guide me to this day.” Biden also said that we owe “these wonderful fathers a great deal of respect and gratitude.”
“Like so many Americans, I am thankful for the precious time I have had both as a son and as a father,” Biden wrote. “The unique challenges of the last few years have reminded us to cherish the time we have with our dads — learning more from them, showing them more gratitude, and showering them with more love.”
