Lena Waithe And Cynthia Erivo Spotted Holding Hands At Spirit Gala

Hollywood hasn't been a hub for long-lasting and wholesome relationships. 

Celebrity relationships and marriages are subjected to a lot of spotlight and speculations, which can take a toll on the marriage. On the other hand, marriage is a very exhausting venture, and when most people find out exactly what it is about, they tend to want to jump ship.

Fans were beside themselves with joy when it was announced that the "Ready Player One" actress Lena Waithe would be tying the knot with her long-lasting partner, Alana Mayo. However, this joy was short-lived as the pair got married and split two months after.

It'd appear that Waithe is back on the relationship grind as she was recently seen holding hands with actress Cynthia Erivo at the Alvin Ailey Spirit Gala Gala. Read on to learn more about their rumored romance.

Erivo and Waithe have seemed to confirm the long-running rumor which speculated that they were dating.

On Thursday, the pair appeared together at the Alvin Ailey Spirit Gala and took separate pictures on the red carpet. However, per Page Six, they were spotted holding hands as they walked into the auditorium of the Gala.

Erivo and Waithe first linked in May 2018 when the former gushed about the "Master Of None" actress, sharing a picture of both of them.

"I finally found my sis. Lena, you are absolutely everything. You are perfection. What a meeting of minds, glad to have you in my life! Stuck like glue!!! SHINE QUEEN SHINE!!"

Two years later, "The Color Purple" actress starred in a talent show which was written by Waithe. In the movie, the two-time Tony winner and Oscar nominee played the role of a singer-songwriter who recently returned to Chicago to mentor a group for a talent show.

The pair have been seen on so many events together and have sat together at multiple event shows, including the recent Tony's.

They were also reported to have been living together after sharing separate pictures on their Instagram from the same theater room.

In 2019, Waithe tied the nuptial knot with longtime girlfriend Mayo, in San Francisco. Per an interview on the "Ellen DeGeneres" show, she shared that it was a quiet one.

"We snuck and did it, you know. We didn't really make any announcements or anything big, you know."

She explained that both of them were in San Francisco and spontaneously decided to get married at a courthouse with Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials at the time.

"It was her idea, like all good things are, and she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, 'We should get married there,' and I said, 'Cool, I'm down,'" Waithe replied.

She continued, "It was a humbling day, you know, to marry someone so amazing, but also to appreciate all the work that so many people have put in for us to be able to do that. Everybody should be able to do that."

Before the wedding, she shared with People that she had no idea when they would tie the knot, but when they did, it'd be "super small, crazy small."

"It's almost like an excuse to have fun with our friends," she added.

She also revealed that their relationship was the first time her wife had been with a woman.

Two months after they shared the news of their marriage, Waithe announced that they had split.

"After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," read a joint statement from the couple's reps to E! News. "We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time."

A few weeks after, Mayo filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court, per reports from The Blast.

Since their marriage was short-lived, it's hard to say if a spousal agreement was on the table or if they had signed a prenuptial agreement before they got hitched.

There were several reports which cited infidelity as the cause of their split, stating that Waithe was unfaithful to her wife. She was allegedly buying other women designer gifts –Chanel, Gucci–while being with Mayo. Some rumors posited that she was seeing Erivo at the time.

Waithe is a popular name in Hollywood who is famous for her role in "Ready Player One," "Westworld," "Twenties," "Queen And Slim," and her TV series "The Chi." She also won a for her role in "Master Of None," making her the first Black woman to win an Emmy award for a comedy series.
