Ana De Armas Is On Point As Marilyn Monroe In Netflix's 'Blonde'

We have seen many movies, biopics, and documentaries made around Marilyn Monroe aka Norma Jean, played by the likes of Ashley Judd, Michelle Williams, Blake Lively, and now, Ana de Armas. And none more so on point as Ben Affleck's ex who looks so real as Monroe, it's like she's risen from the dead, down to that breathy, little-girl voice.

More than her life, her beauty, and her movies, Monroe is today remembered for her troubled life, her secretive but powerful partners, and her untimely death. The upcoming Marilyn movie on Netflix, "Blonde", is creating waves, for its unapologetic story and especially because Ana De Armas looks eerily like Marilyn, in the flesh. Here's what Armas has shared, and the reaction of the audience as well...

Cuban actress Ana de Armas is very excited about her upcoming movie, as she posted a series of pictures of her as Marilyn on her Instagram, writing: "BLONDE. What a beautiful dream!"

She also spoke of the director, Andrew Dominik, saying, "Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens. He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen."

Armas also gave a link to her fans, in case they wanted to know more, writing, "read the full story on @netflixqueue."

Fan reactions are not only positive, they border on the effusive, as comments flowed in.

Armas also seems to feel a kinship with Marilyn, referring to her by her birth name, Norma Jeane, with the following post.

"Blonde" is based on the eponymous book written by Joyce Carol Oates, where the author believes Marilyn was assassinated. The teaser trailer has a darkness about it as well, and though we all know about Marilyn's life and struggles, the movie is likely to highlight them as well as Monroe's sexual escapades, given that the movie has been awarded an NC-17 rating.

So that's a "no certificate", which Armas seems to have predicted, with this Monroe clip, from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes".

The director, Andrew Dominik, feels this is one movie, likely to offend everyone.

In an interview, he stated, "It’s an interesting time for 'Blonde' to come out. If it had come out a few years ago, it would have come out right when Me-Too hit and it would have been an expression of all that stuff. We’re in a time now, I think, where people are really uncertain about where any lines are. It’s a film that definitely has a morality about it. But it swims in very ambiguous waters because I don’t think it will be as cut-and-dried as people want to see it. There’s something in it to offend everyone.”

He was still surprised about the NC-17 rating, although he had predicted it, himself. Without mincing his words, Dominik let it fly, "It’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story. It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office.”
