Actress Amber Heard has NOT been left high and dry when it comes to her "Aquaman" sequel.

Although the DC blockbuster was a highlight of her career, sources from Just Jared reported on Tuesday afternoon that Heard has been cut out of the "Aquaman" sequel, which is scheduled to debut early next year.

Instead, their sources have reported that DC execs are looking to completely recast the role of Mera entirely.

It seems hard to believe that the Heard would be out of the movie when “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is already scheduled for a theatrical release on March 17, 2023.

During the highly publicized defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp, Heard claimed that she lost “a bunch” of scenes in the “Aquaman” sequel due to the “smear campaign” against her.

During the trial, Depp’s attorneys called Warner Bros. executive and DC President Walter Hamada to testify about Heard’s appearance in “Aquaman.”

During his video deposition, Hamada admitted that Heard and “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa “didn’t have a lot of chemistry together.”

“The reality is it's not uncommon on movies for two leads to not have chemistry and it's sort of movie magic and editorial — the ability to put performances with the magic of a great score and how you put the pieces together, you can fabricate that chemistry,” he explained.

“At the end of the day when you watch the movie, it looks like they have great chemistry,” Hamada continued. “But I just know that through the course of postproduction, it took a lot of effort to get there.”

“Sometimes you just put characters together on the screen and they work,” he added. “It's like what makes a movie star a movie star. You know it when you see it. The chemistry wasn't there … This one was more difficult because of lack of chemistry between the two.”

After the news broke, The Blast reached out to Amber Heard for comment. A spokesperson for the actress told us, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one -- inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane.”

So there you have it! It looks like Heard is still going to be in the "Aquaman" sequel after all. That being said, it's not exactly clear how much time she is going to have in the movie. Heard herself testified that she lost "a bunch" of scenes in the sequel and felt that she was barely in it.

In late April, when the trial was still being hotly debated on social media, film journalist Grace Randolph reported that Heard has “less than 10 minutes of screen time” in the “Aquaman” sequel.

Although fans have started several petitions and trending hashtags to try to get Heard booted from the sequel, film producer Peter Safran made it clear that Heard was going to reprise her role as Mera.

In 2021, Safran told Deadline, “I don’t think that we’re ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure. You gotta do what you feel is best for the movie. We felt that if it’s [director] James Wan and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That’s really what it was.”

“Listen, one is not unaware of what is going on in the Twitterverse, but that doesn’t mean you have to react to it or take it as gospel or accede to their wishes,” Safran continued. “You have to do what you feel is right for the film, and that’s really where we landed on it.”

That being said, a petition to get Heard axed from the successful blockbuster franchise has gotten over 4.6 million signatures.

A Change.org petition titled  “Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2” has now reached over 4.6 million signatures and is still growing.

“As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project,” the creator of the petition wrote. “They must not ignore the suffering of Heard's victims, and must not glamorize a domestic abuser.”

Although it looks like Heard is sticking around for the sequel, at this time, it's unclear if she will appear in any future DC films.
