Demi Lovato is one proud, sober singer.
The “Sorry Not Sorry” songstress, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, revealed their upcoming album was made entirely “clean and sober.”
On Friday, June 10, they released their new single titled “Skin of My Teeth.”
Demi Lovato's New Music Was Made Entirely Sober
Last week, Lovato made an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and opened up about their eighth studio album, “Holy Fvck.”
“I’ve definitely been through a ton, that’s no secret to the world. After going through even more stuff last year, I came out of treatment again and I realized, I really want to do this for myself and I want to make the best album possible, something that really represents who I am,” they explained to Fallon.
Lovato nearly died in 2018 after a drug overdose and immediately entered rehab after coming out of the hospital.
Demi Lovato Tried Being "California Sober" After Near-Fatal OD
They tried to be “California sober” after treatment, which means they smoked and drank, but did not use hard drugs.
Upon realizing this way of life was too risky, Lovato decided to become 100% sober.
They explained the best way to make an amazing album is to do it soberly.
“The best way to do that and the easiest way to do something the most authentic is to do it clean and sober. I made this album clean and sober,” Lovato admitted. “I can’t say that about my last album, but this one, I’m really, really proud about.”
The album will be released on August 19th, one day before their 30th birthday.
Demi Is Very Proud Of This "Clean & Sober" Album
“Holy Fvck” will have more of a punk/rock vibe which is similar to their sound earlier in their music career.
“The process of making this album has been the most fulfilling yet, and I’m grateful to my fans and collaborators for being on this journey with me. Never have I been more sure of myself and my music, and this record speaks that for itself. To my Lovatics who have been rocking out with me since the beginning and those who are just now coming along for the ride, thank you. This record is for you,” they shared in a statement.
This album comes after Demi released “Dancing With The Devil” in 2021. ‘DWTD’ was their first album since a near fatal 2018 drug overdose.
The last time Demi toured was in 2017 for their “Tell Me You Love Me World Tour.”
“I’m so excited to get back on the road after four years without touring, and even longer since I’ve toured in South America,” Demi said. “We’re working so hard to deliver an incredible show for all my fans and I can’t wait to see them in person to celebrate this new music.”
The 32-date tour kicks off on Tuesday, August 30th in São Paulo, Brazil at Espaço das Américas before making stops across South and North America in Belo Horizonte, Bogotá, San Francisco, Montreal, Nashville and more before wrapping up in Irving, TX at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on Sunday, November 6th.
For the North American leg of the tour, there will be support from DEAD SARA and Royal & The Serpent on select dates.
