“I Am Legend” came out in 2007 and tells the story of Robert Neville, a scientist who survives a worldwide plague that wipes out most of the world’s population and turns some into monsters.

It is up to Smith’s character, who is the sole survivor in New York City, to find a cure for the plague and bring back humanity.

According to The Sun, Smith is already working on the movie.

“The script is being written mentioning his character and as of yet, Will remains attached to the project,” an inside source told the outlet.

“The concept is still to be signed off by Warner Brothers, but there has been no indication that Will is off the project,” the source continued.

The sequel will reportedly be produced by Smith’s own production company, Westbrook Media, and see the actor reprise his role as Neville.

The source explained, "Obviously he is the producer of the film and his production company is in charge while the development continues. The reality is that Will will make a comeback at some point and it will be simply down to which studio will be the one to take a chance on him.”

This will mark Smith’s first big project after he slapped Chris Rock across the face at the 2022 Oscars. His actions at the award ceremony got him banned from all Academy Award-related events for the next ten years.

Despite the slap, he went on to win the Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Richard Williams in “King Richard.”
