Actress Neve Campbell is getting a lot of support from her "Scream" costars, Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy.
As The Blast previously reported, Neve Campbell, who plays protagonist Sidney Prescott, revealed that she will not return to "Scream 6" over a contract dispute.
Although many fans of the slasher horror flick are hoping that she'll change her mind, her costars have been showing her nothing but support.
'Scream' Costars Support Neve Campbell's Decision To Leave 'Scream'
Matthew Lillard, who first starred as one of the villains in the original 1996 movie, expressed his support for Campbell during a Twitter Spaces chat with Midnite Movie Club, as reported by PEOPLE.
"Did Tom Cruise take less money for [Top Gun: Maverick]? F— no, dude. So, why is a woman supposed to take less? Why wouldn't you pay her more as the series goes on?" Lillard asked.
"Was Scream 5 a hit or not a hit? It was a smash hit. Did they make a s— ton of money?" he asked. "Yes."
"Should Neve Campbell be paid for the work she's done in five movies of a franchise? Yes, because she's a female lead of one of the most successful horror franchises," Lillard added.
Jamie Kennedy, who also starred alongside Campbell in the first two movies, stepped up to show his support through his YouTube channel. "Hollywood, this is a clear example of how twisted the system is," he said.
"Sidney Prescott is the center of Scream. Neve Campbell is the face of Scream. Ghostface chasing her throughout the whole franchise ... Neve is the final girl," Kennedy continued. "It's crazy that the people behind the scenes are not paying the money to literally the face of the franchise. It's people who weren't involved from the get-go. This is everything that's wrong with the business."
David Arquette Says A ‘Scream’ Movie Without Neve Campbell Is ‘Kind Of Unfortunate’
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, David Arquette said, “I’d love for her to be a part of it. A Scream movie without Sidney is kind of unfortunate, but I understand her decision. It's all a business in a way, they have to balance all these elements to fit a budget and produce a film.”
“I get it, she's still alive,” he said, adding, saying that Campbell can “absolutely be in future ones, but I think it's up to fans to call for that in the future.”
“That is sudden,” he said of her departure, noting, “It's a business, though. I respect her decision, for sure.”
Arquette admitted that he hadn’t been “looped in” on the sixth movie since his character didn’t survive Ghostface in “Scream 5.” However, there is one legacy character that is eager to return and survive Ghostface for a sixth time.
Courtney Cox Is Confirmed To Return To 'Scream 6"
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett rebooted the franchise in January of this year after horror master Wes Craven died of a brain tumor in August 2015 at the age of 76.
The new film featured newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, who will all be making a return in the next film.
So will Courtney Cox, who has starred in every film to date as headstrong reporter Gale Weathers.
In December, she told the Just for Variety podcast that she had already gotten the script. "I got the script yesterday," she said at the time. "I haven't read it yet, I just got it... I'm excited to read it, and I know they're going to start filming... I think, in June, in Canada."
"I don't know if I'm supposed to say anything," she joked. "Let me tell you the killer."
Although she may have gotten the script, a source close to the production exclusively told The Blast that the cast and crew were counting on Neve Campbell to appear in the film. As a result, it's looking more and more likely that large portions of the script are going to need to be rewritten, which could delay the release of "Scream 6."
