The first reviews are in for “Jurassic World Dominion.”
The movie is the culmination of the “Jurassic Park” franchise and wraps up the “Jurassic World” sequel that started in 2015. The final installment will see the new characters of Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) team up with legacy characters Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern).
The synopsis for the film reads: “The future of mankind hangs in the balance as humans and dinosaurs coexist following the destruction of Isla Nublar.”
However, not all reviews for the film have been positive.
‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Early Reviews Are... Not Great
On Friday morning, “Jurassic World Dominion” had a 33% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score was much higher at 79%.
Although the critics tore apart the film’s acting, plot, and special effects, many fans rated the film much more positively.
JW-Gojifan wrote, “I enjoyed this one. Granted some of the effects look cheap and the overall plot was more about the dangers of genetic power than dinosaurs overall but I feel that was the point. When Crichton wrote the original novel, it was about the dangers of controlling nature. Plus, being Indiana Jones inspired really showed, especially during the Malta chase.”
“There were a lot of moments that had my heart pumping and seeing the original cast was a dream come true and they were treated FAR better than the legacy characters in Star Wars,” they added. “I would recommend this one. It is fun, tense and has heart.” They gave the film three out of five stars and a 7 out of 10 rating.
Charla P wrote, “Enjoyed the casting of previous favorites and updated story line. It was fun to recognize nostalgic action sequences from previous movies, e.g. big dinosaur fights creating opportunity to flee. Just pure entertainment.” They gave the film five out of five stars.
X wrote, “I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I watched it in the IMAX theater. It was just an amazing experience. The graphics were amazing, the story was great, and my attention was locked on from the beginning to the very end!! There were moments where I almost jumped out my seat LOL. This is my opinion is a definite must-see movie!!”
However, not all audience members enjoyed the conclusion of the “Jurassic World” trilogy.
Other Viewers Dub The Movie A Massive Disappointment
Nick and Hannah wrote, “This was such a disappointment. Worst of the franchise, easily. Horrible writing, pointless plot that was not well developed, mostly tried to make it as big of a action thriller (think Bourne movies), so lost the opportunity to do right by all the characters. Would not recommend or see again.”
Krishna B wrote, “This movie doesn't have anything to do with dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are more like side characters. Trailer made it look like they will be dealing with the aftermath of humans having to co-exist with the dinosaurs but they basically did nothing about that and just said humans will figure it out. And don't get me started on how a handful of dinosaurs multiplied and spread all across the world in just a matter of 4 years.”
Justus W wrote, “Honestly, this is by far the worst of the Jurassic movies. There are some cool moments with the music and characters. The acting was fairly good. Other than that... not much here. It felt like dinosaurs were just sort of there in the background, but that the movie wasn't really about them. It was about stupid locust.”
“Really?! You wrap up the best dinosaur series of movies by making it about locust?” they continued. “Also, when we did see dinosaurs, I was never afraid of them. The main characters never seemed to really be in any danger. Even the big new dinosaur was not remotely frightening. It was so dumb and slow and no one really seemed afraid of it. Seeing dinosaurs everywhere... that was a movie I wanted since I was a kid and saw the first one. They took that idea... and destroyed it. I went in trying to like it so much... and left so sad.”
Randall wrote, “The movie just seemed very bland and boring. Nothing was really too exciting. However, take this with a grain of salt because I was never really a fan of the whole series. I only went because a friend wanted to go.”
It’s clear that the movie won’t win over any fans who didn’t like the previous movies, but it sounds like even fans of the franchise were let down by the flick. The movie isn’t out on streaming yet, but it might be worth it to wait and watch it at home... unless you want to experience the action in IMAX.
