Director Colin Trevorrow believes that being fired from Lucasfilm may have actually helped "Jurassic World Dominion."

After the 2015 "Jurassic World" reboot broke box office records, Trevorrow and collaborator Derek Connolly were hired by Disney to write the script for Episode IX two months after the film's release.

Although the two delivered a finished script that has since leaked online, Trevorrow left the project due to creative differences with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. As such, J.J. Abrams was hired on to finish off the Skywalker Saga, after having previously directed the first movie in the sequel trilogy, 2015's "The Force Awakens."

"What I appreciate about having worked on Star Wars is that I really got a practice run at making a new version of something we loved when we were kids and bringing it to a satisfying conclusion," he explained. "So I felt like I got a master's degree in that, during that time."

"And I took so much of what I learned, and also so many of the people who I worked with – Kevin Jenkins was our production designer on this," he continued. "So many people who I met on that project came over and worked on Dominion, so I can't feel anything but good about it, because it allowed us to make the film we made now."

Although Trevorrow had rebooted the franchise for 2015's "Jurassic World," he passed the torch to J.A. Bayona for 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom." Trevorrow took back over the reins to give the trilogy a satisfying conclusion. This is actually similar to the way that the Star Wars sequel trilogy worked out. After J.J. Abrams started the sequel trilogy, "Knives Out" director took over to create the controversial 2017 movie "The Last Jedi." Abrams was then left to pick up the pieces for the final installment

And, much like Abrams was responsible for bringing the nine-episode Skywalker Saga to an end after it started with 1977's "A New Hope," Colin Trevorrow is responsible for bringing the "Jurassic Park" franchise to a close. The movie started with 1993's "Jurassic Park" and continued with 1997's "The Lost World" and 2001's "Jurassic Park 3."

The final installment will see the new characters of Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing ("The Mandalorian" director Bryce Dallas Howard) team up with legacy characters Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern). Dern was actually cast as Vice Admiral Holdo in 2017's "The Last Jedi."

The Star Wars sequel trilogy has been heavily criticized for the way that the legacy characters were treated during the sequel trilogy, which was made all the more disappointing by the death of Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia/General Leia Organa) before filming 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker."

Hopefully, Colin Trevorrow has taken what he learned from his time writing his own Star Wars script to bring the "Jurassic World" trilogy to a satisfying conclusion.
