MTV's mid-aughts reality show "The Hills" was a cultural touchstone for its ability to showcase the lives of elite twenty-somethings based in Los Angeles, while also making them seem just as ordinary as the show's viewers at home. "Laguna Beach" alumna Lauren Conrad and her friends (and, let's be completely honest, frenemies) were quickly propelled to superstar status.

The cast, particularly Conrad's BFF-turned-biggest-foe Heidi Montag and her now-husband Spencer Pratt, became fixtures on magazine covers and also found themselves amid several supermarket tabloid headlines; With the cast's seemingly every move covered in the media, "The Hills" played a strong role in ushering in the current era of reality TV in which fans and viewers seemingly have 24/7 instant access to its stars.

Audrina Patridge also rose to fame on the series. Patridge, now 37, had the unique ability to be friends with all of the women in "The Hills'" signature friend group. Viewers were also gifted the presence of Patridge's on-and-off boyfriend Justin 'Justin Bobby' Brescia with his signature two names and sleepy eyes.

Now more than a decade and a spin-off later MTV is looking to revisit one of its biggest success stories; the network is looking to reboot "The Hills" with a fresh crop of bubbly twenty-somethings ready for their close-ups amid the glossiness of Los Angeles.

There are countless reasons why a network or viewer might appreciate the idea of rebooting a beloved series; a reboot could be seen as an opportunity to expand upon its legacy.

But if you ask Patridge and her fellow castmates, they're feeling puzzled over the prospect of why the series is being rebooted.

"I can't believe they're doing this, to be honest," Patridge shared on the TalkShopLive podcastper People Magazine. "We were all kind of shocked. Especially because on 'The Hills: New Beginnings,' we had a cast of 14 and it was actually really hard to film because there were so many people and so many things going on. So the fact that they have a new cast of 20, I don't know how they're going to do that. It's going to be a very busy show..."

Seeing a new generation of potential new darlings of reality TV be affiliated with the show sparks mixed feelings for Patridge and her fellow castmates.

Patridge continued in her interview, "I'm a little bummed out about it but I guess they want a younger generation and as you get older you have more responsibilities and you care about your image and we're not in our twenties anymore so I guess getting a new generation of kids makes sense 'cause they're going to be carefree and wild."

Despite having some initial hesitations about the idea, Patridge will be ready to binge the series once it comes out like the rest of us!

"...It's going to be really weird with new people taking over but I think they're going to try to change the entire... it's not going to be anything like the original 'Hills.' I can't wait. I'm going to have to tune in and watch. There's no way I can't!" she said.

Patridge may feel a little relieved on some level to pass the torch down to the next generation; not every single moment shooting the original series felt a-okay for her.

In an interview with Grazia Magazine, Patridge let readers in on certain behind-the-scenes pressures she felt from producers, particularly centered on her rollercoaster relationship with Brescia.

She revealed, "The show still wanted me to be in love with Justin and they wanted me to fight with Kristin [Cavallari, who joined the series during the fifth season.] At that point, it was ruining my real-life relationship because I had to keep faking all these scenes and it was starting to affect my reputation and my work. I had to eventually talk to the producers and say no."

Patridge also added, "It was definitely looking like I was always desperate and wanted Justin all of the time and it was probably the hardest thing for me because it wasn't like that."

Fans of the original 'Hills' series and Audrina Patridge have an opportunity to peek further into what things behind-the-scenes were truly like, via her new memoir "Choices: To the Hills and Back Again" which will be released on July 26th!
