Actor Jude Law is about to venture into the galaxy far, far away.
On Thursday, the annual fan event Star Wars Celebration kicked off with a bang in Anaheim, California. The four-day event will give fans a serious look into what’s ahead for the franchise. Although the last film, “The Rise of Skywalker,” came out in 2019, “The Mandalorian” live-action series has revitalized the active fanbase and fans are looking forward to the premiere of “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” which is already available to stream on Disney+.
But at the start of Celebration, fans learned that they have a brand new original Star Wars series to look forward to.

“Fantastic Beasts” actor Jude Law will star in “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.” The series is being developed by Jon Watts, who directed the “Spider-Man” trilogy, and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” writer Christopher Ford.
The project, which had been nicknamed Grammar Rodeo, got its official title, “Skeleton Crew” at the Star Wars Celebration event on Thursday afternoon. Star Wars fansites had been speculating about the announcement for months.
It’s worth noting that a recent Vanity Fair article on all things Star Wars mentioned that Grammar Rodeo is actually a reference to an episode of “The Simpsons” where Bart and his friends attempt to steal a car and run away for a weekend. The series was also described as a classic coming-of-age adventure film, which was popular in the 1980s.
On Thursday, the panel revealed that the story would be set in the New Republic era. It will tell the story of a group of children lost in the galaxy trying to find their way home. Watts told the crowd that it stars four children, each about ten years old, but stated that it's not a kid's show.
Production on the series is expected to start this summer. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will serve as executive producers on the series.
It’s unclear what role Law will play in a galaxy far, far away, but fans are looking forward to it. They're also looking forward to the upcoming “Andor” series. Thursday's Star Wars Celebration panel revealed a lot more information about the upcoming show as well.

On Thursday afternoon, the official Star Wars Twitter account posted the video for fans who were not able to attend the Celebration in California. “Watch the brand-new teaser trailer for #Andor, streaming August 31 on @DisneyPlus,” they wrote in the caption.
At the panel, they revealed that two episodes will be released onAugust 31. Showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that 12 episodes have been planned for the first season and twelve episodes are planned for a second season. Filming for “Andor” season 2 is scheduled to start shooting this fall.
Gilroy revealed that the second season will cover the four-year gap that takes place before the film and lead directly into the events of “Rogue One” with its final scene, so it sounds like the show will not get a third season.
And, speaking of third seasons, season 3 of “The Mandalorian” is scheduled for a February 2023 release date.
