Noah Cyrus Says She Created Her 'Own Way' Into The Music Business

Cyrus got candid about why she wanted to make a name for herself outside of her family’s influence. The artist appeared in an interview with Apple Music Country’s “Trailblazers Radio with Fancy Hagood” and revealed that she wanted to make her way into the music industry.

“I definitely would like to say that I did create my own way into the music business,” she said. “I think I did it very independently in a way, like where I don’t think people actually expected that, but that was something that was very important to me was to do it independently.”

The 22-year-old further revealed that before fully getting into the music industry, she already had some knowledge of it due to her family. “It definitely did prepare me for things,” Noah said. The “All Falls Down” artist said during her introduction to the industry that she got into “such a difficult place in [her] life” but put it all as part of her “personal journey.” “I went into such a difficult place in my life, in such a dark place that I don’t think anything could have prepared me for that, but that was all on my own personal journey,” Cyrus disclosed.

“Going in at 16 and getting signed to a record label, I knew what that was all about,” the 22-year-old continued. “But I think it was more of the personal challenges that I would face [like] meeting new people and maybe being influenced by other people in a negative way. And I think that’s not what I was prepared for.”

Cyrus Felt Like The ‘Shadow’ Growing Up

Growing up in a famous family with an even more famous older sister has its perks and drawbacks. While Cyrus doesn’t talk much about her life while growing up, the artist went live on Instagram in May 2020 and got emotional while explaining her experience growing up in her sister’s “shadow.”

This came after the 22-year-old released her single, “The End of Everything.” The song had lyrics like “My sister’s like sunshine, bringing good light wherever she’ll go / and I was born to rain clouds, blessed in her shadows.”

Talking about the song, Cyrus disclosed how hard it was growing up because “everyone gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley’s little sister.” “But you know, I always felt like I was that person that no one gave a s--t about due to what people said to me online,” she added.

Noah Cyrus Thought She Wasn’t ‘Enough’

In the Instagram live, the artist said that the experience was “absolutely unbearable” for her, leading to the song lyrics. “Because that’s why everybody always says to me, that no matter what, I was going to be in that shadow.”

The “I Burned LA Down” artist further admitted that she always thought she would stay in her sister’s shadow because it was “something I heard my whole life.” She continued, “It was either that or that I wasn’t enough in some way, whether it was the way I look or the way I am. Like I said the other day, sometimes I feel like I don’t even breathe right sometimes.”

Cyrus added that she released “The End of Everything” because she wanted to open up about her life growing up and the song would be her only time openly looking back at the time. “Everybody always says you’re giving the people power by seeing it, but I can’t control seeing it. You guys are young; you know the internet. It’s been really tough on me, so that song is just pretty tough to get through,” she said.
